Another Florida Sheriff's Deputy Arrested For Arresting People on False Drug Charges
https://reason.com/2019/07/30/another-f ... g-charges/
A former sheriff's deputy in Martin County, Florida, was arrested Monday for falsely imprisoning people on bogus drug charges. He is the second Florida deputy in one month to be charged with fabricating evidence during drug-related arrests.

Former Martin County Sheriff's Deputy Steven O'Leary, who was fired from the department in January, allegedly made three drug arrests in which the substances involved were not actually narcotics. In each case, he claimed that roadside field tests returned positive results for illegal drugs.

...

After Monday's arrest, O'Leary is charged with multiple offenses including: official misconduct, false statements, tampering with evidence, false imprisonment, petit theft and battery.

Have you spoken at a Chicago Police Board meeting? The police know more about you than you realize
https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/cri ... story.html
Chicago police have for years compiled profiles on every citizen who spoke at public meetings of the city’s police disciplinary panel, a process that included running criminal background checks and internet searches on activists, a police union official and even relatives of an innocent woman killed in a high-profile police shooting, the Chicago Tribune has learned.

Documents obtained by the Tribune under a public records request show the Police Department gathered the details on nearly 60 people in advance of their speaking at monthly meetings of the Chicago Police Board since at least January 2018. A police spokesman said the background checks go back further, to at least 2013.

The checks appear to be extensive, with police searching at least one internal department database to determine if speakers have arrest or prison records, warrants outstanding for their arrest, investigative alerts issued for them by the department and even if they’re registered sex offenders or missing persons. Police also searched comments that speakers had previously made on YouTube or on their Facebook and Twitter accounts, among other internet sites, the documents show.

Among those subjected to background checks were a woman who alleged she was sexually assaulted decades ago by a Chicago police officer, a community activist who gained prominence after the fatal shooting of Laquan McDonald by a police officer and a 77-year-old man known for his frequent, flamboyant rants on a variety of topics at public meetings across the city.

A bodycam caught a deputy shooting a man in his South Carolina home. It contradicts the initial police narrative.

In other words, the police realized that the body cam footage would prove they were lying, so now they're trying to walk back their earlier lies.

ECSO deputy accused of urinating in girl's mouth, FDLE says there may be more victims
https://www.pnj.com/story/news/crime/20 ... 855663001/
An Escambia County Sheriff's Office deputy who was arrested last week is accused of urinating into the mouth of a young girl multiple times over the span of nearly two years. Jerome Zaid, 33, was arrested Friday and charged with one count of battery of a child and one count of sexual battery of a child under 12 years of age. A warrant for his arrest, released Monday morning, details several instances where Zaid allegedly urinated into the mouth of girl, now age 5, from October 2017 through July 2019. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the case, and the agency said in a news release Monday afternoon that agents believe Zaid victimized at least two children under the age of 6, both of whom he had frequent contact with.

I'm almost at the end of Serial season 3... I know it's not necessarily all about cops behaving badly, but more the nature of the entire judicial system, but holy sh*t there's some terrible stuff that they discuss.

It's a good listen (and by good I mean, they tell it well, not that it's an enjoyable story).

Yeah, the incident where they locked the dude in the janitorial closet and just kind of forgot about him for three days was nuts.

Body cam footage shows cops making jokes after pinned man went unconscious
https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watc ... d-man-went
Newly released body camera footage showed Dallas police officers joking after a pinned, handcuffed man who later died became unresponsive, rather than checking his pulse or performing CPR, according to The Dallas Morning News.

In the footage, officers who pinned Tony Timpa to the ground by his shoulders, knees and neck are depicted taking four minutes after Timpa became unresponsive to perform CPR, instead making jokes about waking him up for school.
But surely this guy was a hardened criminal who did something heinous to have the police do that to him, right? Well, no.
Timpa was restrained after calling 911 and telling a dispatcher that he was a paranoid schizophrenic who was off his medication and needed help.
So a mentally-ill man called the police for help, the police show up and kill him, and they crack jokes as he dies.

The first dude was 5 days, and then the second was 2 days. The fact that the dude that was locked in there for 5 days sued, won (and the win is still up in the air due to a technicality) and then they did it AGAIN? Wtf...

Sidebar...Ohio voted against weed legalization in 2015. People who devote their careers to this cause were actually advocating that people vote against it because of the limited amount of business licenses that were being handed out. Meanwhile, over the last 4 years, you have the police in Ohio using weed as an entry point to harassment and abuse and judges using it to make biased claims about character for heavier sentencing. Such a stain on the movement. Any time this is on the ballot, it should be supported.

Yeah... I have a good amount of family in Ohio and from what I understand, the sticking point wasn't legalizing weed. The issue was that only certain people at the top of the food chain were going to see any profits from it. To a certain extent, I understand, but not enough to vote no in that case.

Makes you really wonder if psychopaths are drawn to police work. What the hell do cops do that they need to subdue dogs with force this often?

How about a cop who broke his own K9 partner's leg?

Deputy resigns after he 'slammed' K-9 to ground multiple times, report says
https://www.thetelegraph.com/news/artic ... 272557.php
Six months after authorities say a South Carolina K-9 was hurt by its own handler, the investigation into the officer has been closed. According to an internal affairs memo released through a Freedom of Information Act request, back in January, Anderson Sheriff Deputy Jacob Saxon “slammed K-9 Magnum to the ground multiple times.”
...
The department also looked into “a concern that the illegal use of steroids played a part in the conduct of Deputy Jacob Saxon and the injury of K-9 Magnum.” The department said Saxon refused to submit to a requested test for steroids and was “unable to obtain concrete evidence to confirm or not confirm the allegation.”
But of course:
The Anderson Sheriff’s Office says the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has completed its investigation and presented it to the state attorney general’s office which recommended that there’s not enough evidence to prosecute the officer, officials said.
So a roid-raging cop repeatedly slams a police dog into the ground and breaks its leg, but there's not enough to prosecute. How many of you think that the same "no prosecution" recommendation would be made if a non-cop brutally injured a police dog?

San Diego Police Sgt. Accused of Soliciting Minor for Sex Found Dead of Apparent Suicide

A San Diego police sergeant who was arrested for allegedly soliciting a minor for sex was found dead from an apparent suicide inside his apartment Monday, police say.

Authorities found the body of Sgt. Joseph Ruvido, 49, inside his Carmel Valley apartment at 4:24 p.m. on Monday after he failed to show up in court for his 1:30 p.m. arraignment, San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit said at a press conference Monday night, NBC San Diego reports.

A 21-year veteran of the force, Ruvido was arrested on July 26 and charged with two felonies and a misdemeanor after he allegedly set up a meeting with a minor — or a person he thought was a minor — for sexual purposes and then followed through by coming to the arranged meeting, say police, the Los Angeles Times and the San Diego Union-Tribune report.

He was also arrested on suspicion of attempting to commit lewd acts with a child between the ages of 14 and 15, the outlets report.

Following his arrest, he was suspended without pay and had his police powers removed, Nisleit said.

He posted $100,000 bail on July 27.

On Monday, when he failed to show up for court and a $150,000 bench warrant was issued for his arrest, officers went to his home to locate him when they couldn’t reach him by phone, Nisleit said.

When Ruvido failed to answer the door, “the decision was made to force entry into his apartment,” Nisleit said.

Once inside, he said, “officers found him deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. All signs, all indications are that this is a suicide,” Nisleit said.

Authorities do not know exactly when he died, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

“There are limited details at this time,” he said, adding that investigators are still looking for additional information and potential child victims.

When a reporter asked the chief if the apparent suicide spoke to Ruvido’s “guilt or innocence,” he declined to answer, saying that the investigation is new and still open.

“Like many of you, I too, have many questions that remain unanswered,” he said.

Ruvido’s arrest came several weeks after the department received a tip on a Crime Stoppers line that identifies people soliciting sex from minors, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Ruvido was put under 24-hour surveillance as authorities “fully” investigated the allegations, Nisleit said.

At the time of Ruvido’s arrest, Nisleit said he was embarrassed by the allegations against the sergeant.

“Today I stand here as a very disappointed and embarrassed police chief who has to announce the arrest of one of our own,” he said at a press conference on July 27, NBC San Diego reported.

“I fully understand the actions of Sgt. Ruvido tarnished the badge and this department and this profession,” he said.

Ruvido lived alone, was single and had no children, Nisleit said.

Asked how Ruvido will be remembered and whether he would receive honors for his funeral, the chief replied, “That’s a tough question. He was a San Diego Police Officer for 21 years.”

“We don’t condone what he is accused of, obviously, but he was still a member of this department,” Nisleit said.
“As far as a funeral for him, that will be decided by the family.”

Ruvido’s last assignment was as a sergeant in the watch commander’s office at police headquarters. Before that, he was a patrol sergeant.

Cop Arrested after Video Proves he Lied when Shoving Handcuffed Inmate into Wall
https://newsmaven.io/pinacnews/cops-in- ... V6YA3iswQ/
A South Florida cop claimed a handcuffed inmate was being combative towards other officers who were struggling to keep him under control when he intervened and pulled the inmate away, only for the inmate to break free from his grasp and smash his own face against the wall.

But a surveillance video proved that was a lie.

Video catches Florida officer shoving handcuffed inmate into wall. Now he’s been charged.
https://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/ ... 10332.html
Video surveillance, the key evidence in the case, shows that Garcia’s face smashed into the wall, and he fell dazed to the ground. He suffered a large cut above the left eye, which was later closed with surgical glue by paramedics. Brown’s attorney, Cornely, said the officer was justified in pushing the inmate because the man was drunk, unruly and appeared to be about to attack. “From the get-go, he was uncooperative,” Cornely told the Miami Herald on Wednesday morning. Brown later wrote in a report that Garcia was poised “in an attempt to attack” and “fell forward” in hitting the wall. Prosecutors charged him with official misconduct, saying the report was false.

So we have yet another cop lying in a police report. And note from the video that there were at least two other police officers in the room. Did any of those other cops point out that their fellow officer lied in his report? Of course not.
