Cop Shoots 14yo Boy Through a Fence as He Played With His Friends
https://thefreethoughtproject.com/cop-s ... g-friends/

As the video shows, as the officer walks along the fence, faint pops are heard in the distance. Holcomb then gets on the radio, saying, “I think it’s a cap gun, but they are shooting something off.”

The fact that the kids were heard shooting the toy guns in the house proves they had no idea anyone had called police on them and no idea that police were there.

When Holcomb walks up to a portion of the fence that is missing boards, he points his gun through it for just a few seconds before opening fire.

“Show me your hands! Drop it!” Holcomb says and then immediately begins firing without allowing Lorenzo any time to respond. Lorenzo was shot twice.

Police said in a statement in March that “the suspect did not comply with the orders and Sergeant Holcomb discharged his firearm and struck the suspect.” However, the officer gave Lorenzo exactly 0 seconds to comply with any order.

But according to the lying liars at the Oklahoma City police department, who "punished" Sergeant Holcomb with only a paid suspension (i.e., a paid vacation):
“Sergeant Holcomb could see the suspect had a gun in his hand and gave the suspect verbal commands to drop the gun,” a police statement said without showing any video evidence of this. “The suspect did not comply with the orders and Sergeant Holcomb discharged his firearm and struck the suspect.”

Detroit Will Pay Out $60,000 to Woman Whose Dogs Were Shot on a Marijuana Raid

https://reason.com/2019/05/10/detroit-w ... uana-raid/
The City of Detroit will pay out $60,000 to settle a federal civil rights lawsuit by a woman who says police wantonly shot and killed her three dogs during a marijuana raid three years ago.

The plaintiff, Nikita Smith, claimed in a 2016 lawsuit that officers from Detroit's Major Violators Unit acted as a "dog death squad" when they executed a narcotics search warrant on her house for a suspected marijuana offense, shooting three of her pit bulls, including one that was behind a closed bathroom door. Extremely graphic photos entered into evidence in the case show bullet holes riddling the outside of the door and the dog dead inside the bathroom.
One officer involved in the Smith raid has shot 80 dogs over the course of his career, according to "destruction of animal" reports filed by Detroit police officers in 2017 and obtained by Reason. Two other officers involved in the Smith raid testified in depositions that they had shot "fewer than 20" and "at least 19" dogs over the course of their careers.

Robert Mitchell, Unlawfully Jailed by Bakersfield Police, Wins Settlement
https://www.aclusocal.org/en/pr-mitchell-settlement
BAKERSFIELD — Robert Mitchell, a Black man, refused to answer questions from Bakersfield Police Department officers when they stopped the car he was riding in on the pretense that air fresheners were hanging from the rear-view mirror.

Mitchell knew he was well within his rights not to answer. Still, the police arrested him, put him in handcuffs, forced him into the back of a police car, and hauled him off to jail.

But Mitchell, who spent 12 hours in jail despite never being charged with a crime from the incident, was not about to let the matter go quietly. His protests that he had been wrongly arrested and jailed led to a lawsuit filed on his behalf in January 2018 by the American Civil Liberties Union Foundations of Southern and Northern California and the law firm of Kirkland & Ellis LLP against the City of Bakersfield and police officers.

The City of Bakersfield agreed to pay $60,000 to settle the lawsuit. Because of that agreement, the ACLU has formally dropped the suit.

One thing that quickly becomes apparent from watching videos on police behavior is that many of them are either profoundly ignorant of the laws they are charged with enforcing, or they simply don't care what the law is or says.

Forensic Experts Find 'No Evidence' That Houston Narcs Who Killed Dennis Tuttle and Rhogena Nicholas Encountered Gunfire As They Entered the House

https://reason.com/2019/05/14/forensic- ... the-house/
While Maloney has not completed his analysis yet, "the initial bullet trajectories appear to be somewhat contradictory," Chuck Bourque, an attorney representing Nicholas' family, told the Chronicle. "We see no evidence that anybody inside the house was firing toward the door."
We already know the cop who obtained the search warrant completely fabricated the affidavits used to obtain that warrant. What else are the Houston police lying about and covering up? I bet it will eventually be revealed that the cops all accidentally shot each other.

Boulder police officer who arrested black man filming now named in excessive force lawsuit
https://www.denverpost.com/2019/05/16/b ... e-lawsuit/

The Boulder police officer whose arrest of a black man filming an interaction between homeless people and officers is the subject of an independent review has now been named in an excessive force lawsuit by a woman who said the officer shoved her while she was filming an arrest in 2018.

Officer Waylon Lolotai is named in a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court on Thursday by Kelly Clark, 41, who also names the city of Boulder and the Boulder Police Department as defendants in the lawsuit.

The lawsuit alleges that on July 15, 2018, Clark was on University Hill near 1155 13th St. when she saw Lolotai and three other officers arresting a man with what Clark thought was a concerning amount of force.

Clark said she and some other witnesses began videorecording the arrest on their phones, with Clark moving forward to get a better view of the arrest. Clark said Lolotai then yelled at her to get back and shoved her, causing her to become airborne and slam into the ground.

The lawsuit alleges that, “to cover up his misconduct, Officer Lolotai and the Boulder Police Department detained Ms. Clark and instituted false criminal charges against her.” The lawsuit notes obstruction case against Clark was later dropped.

More lawsuits filed in connection with corrupt officers
https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/20 ... rrupt-off/
CHICAGO (AP) - Eight men who claim they were framed with bogus drug cases by a disgraced former Chicago police sergeant have filed federal lawsuits against the city and its police department.

The lawsuits were filed Thursday in U.S. District Court against several police officers in addition to Sgt. Ronald Watts. They describe how between 2004 and 2007 Watts and his team allegedly approached the victims and demanded cash, drugs or guns, and threatened anyone who did not comply.

The Cook County state’s attorney office has dropped cases against more than 60 defendants who were convicted based on arrests tainted by the involvement of Watts‘ team. Court records show 48 other people have sued Watts and the department since 2016. None have gone to trial.

Watts was sentenced to 22 months in prison in 2013 after pleading guilty to stealing money from an FBI informant.

According to prosecutors, Gumbs was a DeKalb County police officer while he moonlighted as an executioner for the gang. Gumbs allegedly tipped off gang members to law enforcement intel—including warning Kevin Clayton, supposedly the gang’s “Chief Enforcer” for the state of Georgia, of a forthcoming police raid.

Surveillance Video Shows Unarmed Man Being Shot By Plainclothes Philadelphia Police Officer In Kensington
https://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2019/ ... ensington/
Relatives say Johnson has a mental disability and a misunderstanding nearly cost him his life.

“My little brother asked for a quarter, did a gesture, officer got nervous and started shooting through the window,” said Johnson’s brother, Hector Tirado.

A man who lives just feet away from the shooting saw Johnson gesturing for money.

“He could have shot my granddaughter, or my daughter, or wife,” a resident said. “This man is out here every day from 9 in the morning to like 6, 7 or 8 at night begging for quarters. We feed him. He is innocent.”
Edit: full video

Johnson wasn't even that close to the officer's car and was nowhere near the driver's-side door.

Watch police in Dover NJ repeatedly punch a man during an arrest for not "rolling over"—except that one cop is kneeling on his stomach and all three are holding him down. It seems that impossibility of compliance was no reason to not beat the crap out of him.

Georgia police officer charged with beating homeless woman

https://triblive.com/news/world/georgia ... ess-woman/
DECATUR, Ga. — An Atlanta-area police officer who was captured on video beating a homeless woman inside a convenience store was indicted Thursday on felony charges, a prosecutor said.

A grand jury indicted DeKalb County police Officer Phillip Larscheid, 29, on charges of aggravated assault and violation of his oath of office, county District Attorney Sherry Boston said.

Officer who fatally shot Tamir Rice hired as a cop again
https://nypost.com/2018/10/05/officer-w ... cop-again/

He was fired from a department for unfitness for duty and then hired by Cleveland, where he killed a 12-year-old boy with a pellet gun within two second of arriving on scene. Why of course he deserves another chance to carry a gun for a living. [/sarcasm]

Yet more evidence that police have no interest in weeding out bad cops. They care about protecting their jobs and covering for each other.

Police officers in the US were charged with more than 400 rapes over a 9-year period
https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/19/us/polic ... index.html

And a lot of them probably got the same kid-glove treatment as this piece of scum:

No jail time for former HPD officer charged with sexually assaulting child
https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2019/05/2 ... ing-child/
HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - A former Honolulu Police Department officer charged with sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl for several years will not go to jail.

According to an indictment, Teddy Van Lerberghe assaulted the girl from 2004 to 2008.

Van Lerberghe initially pleaded not guilty, but he changed his plea to no contest earlier this month after reaching a deal with prosecutors.

Felony sex assault charges usually carry long prison terms, but the 45-year-old only faces five years probation when he's sentenced in August.

“Good Day for a Choke Hold”
A review of the Facebook accounts of thousands of officers around the US — the largest database of its kind — found officers endorsing violence against Muslims, women, and criminal defendants.

https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/em ... iladelphia
[A] new review of police behavior on Facebook documents the systemic nature of the conduct across several departments. The Plain View Project, launched by Philadelphia lawyer Emily Baker-White, examined the accounts of about 2,900 officers from eight departments across the country and an additional 600 retired officers from those same departments. She compiled posts that represented troubling conduct in a database that is replete with racist imagery and memes, and in some cases long, vitriolic exchanges involving multiple officers.

The project sought to compile posts, comments, and other public activity that could undermine public trust in the police and reinforce the views of critics, especially in minority communities, that the police are not there to protect them.

Of the pages of officers whom the Plain View researchers could positively identify, about 1 in 5 of the current officers, and 2 in 5 of the retired officers, made public posts or comments that met that threshold — typically by displaying bias, applauding violence, scoffing at due process, or using dehumanizing language. The officers mocked Mexicans, women, and black people, celebrated the Confederate flag, and showed a man wearing a kaffiyeh scarf in the crosshairs of a gun.

“Just another savage that needs to be exterminated,” wrote Booker Smith Jr., a Dallas police sergeant, about a homicide at a Dollar General store. “Execute all involved,” he wrote separately about a group of teens who were accused of killing a 6-year-old. (One defendant pleaded guilty to aiding in the kidnapping. The alleged shooter and another defendant’s trials are scheduled for later this year.)

Reuben Carver III, a Phoenix officer, proclaimed in a stand-alone post, “Its a good day for a choke hold.”

And in St. Louis, Officer Thomas Mabrey shared a false news report that distorted an incident in which a woman police officer was shot responding to a call from a Moroccan man in Lebanon, Ohio. “F these muslem turd goat humpers,” he wrote, one of numerous anti-Muslim posts.

More on the same study of Facebook posts:

Spotlight: In a Study of Cops’ Facebook Accounts, 1 in 5 Had Posted Racist, Violent Content
https://theappeal.org/spotlight-in-a-st ... t-content/
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported on the identification of nearly 330 active local officers’ public Facebook posts that were included in the database. Reggie Shuford of the ACLU of Pennsylvania said, “Hundreds of police officers in Philadelphia openly express hostility and antipathy toward the people they serve. And the report only exposes those officers who did not hide their views behind a privacy wall. How many more officers say the same thing under the cloak of stronger privacy settings?”

It wasn’t just the less-experienced or lower-ranked officers who were responsible for the offensive, troubling public posts. Among those identified as members of the Philadelphia police department, at least 64 were in leadership roles, “serving as corporals, sergeants, lieutenants, captains, or inspectors, according to an employment roster from January.” One man identified in the database as a Philadelphia sergeant posted a photo of a skeleton wrapped in a U.S. flag, carrying a gun, with the phrase “Death To Islam” on top.

Hoerner and Tulsky also took the Plain View Project’s research and looked into whether officers whose Facebook posts warranted concern had a history of allegations of brutality or misconduct. In Philadelphia, as an example, they found that of the 328 officers, more than a third—139 officers—appeared to have been defendants in one or more federal civil rights lawsuits “based on name, badge number, and other corroborating details.” A hundred of those lawsuits ended in settlements or verdicts against the officers or the city.

I'm coming more and more around on this. I am respectful and polite to every single police officer I see, and generally when I see one at the convenience store or whatever, my inclination is to be friendly and appreciative towards them. I also think the problem described above is more malignant than, as you say, "a few bad apples".

And again, I think that's largely a product of the kind of young men that gravitate towards becoming a cop. I'm not painting a broad brush, but it attracts a lot of former jocks/meatheads/bullies.
