@dodint did you watch yesterdays PTI?
I’m watching it now and when they got to the C-block it seemed eerily familiar…because it was the same C-block recording as Mondays show. I’m so confused

has there ever been a useful mis-game coach interview by the """"sideline reporters"""" on sports broadcasts? all of them can be truncated to "let's keep playing our game"

The only useful information from sideline reporters is when someone is hurt and they provide updates on their status. Th rest is noise to prevent dead air.

what’s the purpose of the point-in-time MPG measurement some cars have? like uhauls have them and I know my brothers Subaru has it too. MPG is so dependent on speed, traffic conditions, etc so I don’t understand why you’d care about that info live, rather than an over-time average that you can also do with most cars

Best analogy I can give you is losing or gaining weight. Essentially you’re asking “what’s the point in tracking calories at each meal when you could just weigh yourself at the end of each week and know if what you’re eating is making you lose or gain the weight you want?”
Like you said, there are a variety of factors that impact mpg… some might not know exactly what those factors might be without the info being presented in live time. Is it a necessary feature? No. Is it useful? Probably, especially to the inexperienced.

I strongly disagree with this analogy because if you weigh yourself at each meal you get three data points. With the MPG info you get what…a data point every five seconds? Over a 10 minute drive that’s 120. That’s very far from useful, especially with how much the MPG changes on a particular drive

I feel like this discussion is not being held in good faith.
Nobody said anything about weighing at each meal.

my bad, I misinterpreted what c2i said
still though, tracking calories is still much, much easier (since it’s just a summation) than trying to “track” your MPG

I’m not sure how you could get any closer to the answer to your original question without actually getting there than this…

but the data is so granular that it doesn’t serve a purpose. It’s like ESPN threw a stat on the screen during a Pens game that tracked Sid’s skating speed. Even when he was in the bench, it’d still show on the screen. It is an entirely purposeless biit of information

Yes... it is useless to know that your car is at 0 mpg when sitting still. I agree.
