I have this same issue with sushi rolls. 2? 3? I just have to see how much rice and filling each one has before committing.

I frequent a taco chain here (Islands Fresh Mex Grill) and would always get 4 $2 shrimp tacos. They doubled the price of each taco so now I’m questioning if I should reduce my number down to 3 or continue to pay $16 for 4 tacos

$4 a piece for tacos...? That is not judicious utilization of funds, my shrimp-loving friend...

I’d pay $4 for a poke taco all day long, though.

These are probably Gorton's Fisherman partially unfrozen mini-shrimp tacos though...

Tacos are a cheap street food...it's very easy to get a cheap taco and tacos have a low price point for success. Notice how burgers and other such scale upwards, but mid to high-end restaurants don't generally offer a $23 taco...? That's because it's a cheap food by design...if you're paying $16+tax just to get four tacos, you're looking at an unfilling $20 lunch...if you come away with that, you're a real smacked ass...

If $4 tacos are too expensive then Bakersfield and Tako must be Ruth’s Chris. I know as well as anyone that the best tacos are cheap and from a hole in the wall with a big C rating in the window but Mimhb clearly likes this place. $4 is fine.

I suggest visiting said taco establishment's website before making any pronouncements as to the suitability of spending $4 on any amount of their tacos.

If I were to still go to Taco Bell it would be four Crunchy Tacos. No drink.

I got blinded by two bike headlights while walking on consecutive nights...I hope those people find their way to the undercarriage of dodint's DeLorean...

Yes. I've been high beam-flashed (you know, the courtesy "turn off your high beams" from a car in the other lane) a couple of times a week since getting a new car in 2020. I use auto-high beams, so my high beams aren't on when they do this...then I actually flash them back.

This was from this summer: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/05/busi ... nding.html

Those trucks behind you in traffic with their lights blaring in the rear view mirror can **** off.

What does taking stuff to the transfer station look like? Like, step by step, how does it work? Things I should know or be prepared for?

More or less the dump. We don’t have a private dump nearby, just the county transfer station where you take stuff like you would a dump.

Municipal?

In Latrobe you drive in and get in line for the scale. Follow the red/green lights until you get weighed. Then proceed to the area that you are offloading into. We have spots for appliances, metal, cardboard recycling, car tires, construction debris, and then the general household garbage compactor. Make as many stops as you need, don't throw solid metal (like brake rotors) into the compactor. When empty, drive back over the scales then go park. Walk to the office and pay, per pound, the difference between your loaded weight and unladen weight. It would normally cost me about $50 for 800 lbs, but smaller trips were only $15.

Try and go midday during the week; otherwise prepare to wait in line at the scales and compactor. The wait at the compactor can be substantial on a weekend.
Wear utility gloves if unloading construction debris, etc.
You may pay extra for appliances, tires, etc.
You are on camera and they know if you dropped off an appliance or tire.
Ours takes credit cards or cash.

In NC it was much the same, but county owned. It was free so long as you lived in the county.

Cool. I’m mostly just taking household remodel scrap. Largely wood/particle board. Just gonna load up the back of the vibe with a tarp and hope to just pull the tarp straight out and go.

If it's like every transfer station I've ever been to you're throwing the stuff into large shipping container-sized waste bins. If the place is good you'll back your car up a ramp and be able to unload it off the ledge. If it's like the one in NC you'll have to throw it over the side from the ground which is okay if you have a pickup but less desirable if you have a hatchback. ;)

Okay. That was a cool experience. Just like you described, backed up to a half wall. Chucked everything over the wall. Paid and left. $20 for the entire car full of trash that the garbage truck likely wouldn’t take.

Good stuff. I'm long overdue for a trip myself. I have an engine block that needs to go take up space somewhere else.
