2016 seems like the only really bad draft to me.

Source of the post Vlad JR. is a beast.
Yes, but methinks he will not age well in baseball terms. I hurt my back watching him swing - it seems he uses mostly upper body/torque and a quick bat. His dad I remember having one of the longest swings, but equally as lethal.
Yeah, I'm inclined to agree. I know he is only 20, but I just don't see him turning into a perennial star. He is obviously super powerful but like you said, that doesn't always translate to success.

Dickie Dunn is Concerned About our Top Prospects:

None of the teams above short season A ball played yesterday, which eliminates all of my regularly featured players. 2018 2nd round pick Braxton Ashcraft started for West Virginia and got lit up, just like every other game he's appeared in since being drafted last year, so that's fun. This year's first round pick Quinn Priester started for the GCL Pirates and had a solid showing. TL's team of destiny, DSL Pirates 2, won 5-3 and are now 26-6 on the season.
America's Team, the Pirates' DSL2, wins again.

27-6. Mojica with another strong game, raises his OPS to 1.141. Randy Romero is already approaching 20, otherwise he'd be another guy to get excited about.

Got so fat in Boston that he stopped switch hitting. Dude just needs to be a Giant. Batting 288/325/571/895 this season.

Giants career: 288/339/463/802
Red Sox career: 237/286/360/646

I guess they used un-juiced balls for the ASG?

Dickie Dunn is Concerned About our Top Prospects:
- Mitch Keller: AAA is off.
- Ke'Bryan Hayes: AAA is off.
- Travis Swaggerty: This surprising development was already ruined, but Swaggerty homered for the first time since the 8th grade picnic. 500/531/667/1198 in July.
- Oneil Cruz: Homered in Bradenton's first game. 279/329/500/829 in A+ this year. Fielding at SS still seems like an adventure. Wonder when they decide to move his position.
- Cole Tucker: AAA is still off.

Whatever. The ASB makes everything boring.

Overall I think, we, and Dickie Dunn in particular, should withhold judgement on Swaggerty until he gets out of the FSL. His average and power are low in an environment that that significantly depresses power. There are seven guys in the entire league with double digit home runs. Say you keep his K% and BB% the same, but then potentially double that HR/FB% (7.7%), when he moves to a different league, you probably see a big boost to his slash line. I think Kevin Newman is the only recent Pirate prospect that thrived in the FSL compared to the other levels, and his profile is basically the only hitter that would not be impacted by the conditions.

He wasn't great in the SAL last year either, but the lack of power numbers concern me less than going an entire month batting 172, plus guys like Glendinning and Sharpe (who admittedly are older) smacking the cover off the ball while Swaggy T looks lost at the plate. There's plenty of time in his development for things to get sorted out. I would just like for once in my lifetime for the Pirates to have a non-pitching prospect who rises through the system quickly and dominates at every level.

Tucker had his best year there (but only .790ops) and Bell crushed there. Harold Ramirez was awesome there.

Meadows was solid - not great. Frazier and Moroff stunk and osuna was there forever and had his worst career numbers there. it was craig's worst year.

Without looking, it seems almost all starting pitchers who succeed in A move up to A+ and repeat their success - though i think there was an exception this year or last year with an international guy (garcia or lopez or something)

@jonmorosi

How high is #Pirates price on Felipe Vázquez? Sources say Pittsburgh likely would ask #Dodgers for *at least* two of the Keibert Ruiz/Gavin Lux/Dustin May/Will Smith group if talks ever advanced. (And one source said Pirates remain unsure if they sell at all.) @MLB @MLBNetwork
Those are the top four prospects in the Dodgers system and where I would start talks as well.

The Yanks got Gleyber Torres for 2 months of Chapman. I think the conversation would have to start with Lux and possibly May or there's no deal. Vazquez has 4 more years I think

And the Yankees got Justus Sheffield and Clint Frazier for 2.5 years of Andrew Miller.

The ask is "high" in the sense that Vazquez would demand a "high" return. So Morosi can go **** himself.
