I don't think my ego could handle that kind of slide, even for $60 million extra in the bank.

He's already made $285MM. Maybe he's dead set on reaching the $300MM mark.

So Sean Rodriguez is trending on Twitter. And knowing the way the world works I clicked it thinking he hit a walk off grand slam or something. Nope, just Philly fans all complaining that he plays too much. I love it

cruz also made 2 throwing errors last night i believe. may become simply the tallest man playing shortstop until moved off the position. but still his hitting this year is encouraging!

Jameson Taillon had Tommy John surgery yesterday, the Pirates announce.

Dr. David Altchek determined Taillon's second Tommy John surgery (also 2014) was necessary while performing Taillon's flexor tendon repair procedure.

Taillon will be out until 2021.

Jameson Taillon underwent flexor tendon repair surgery on Tuesday, August 13. The surgery was performed by Dr. David Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. During the procedure it was determined that Jameson also required a Tommy John surgery.
Got two surgeries for the price of one.

couldn't they have figured that out before the deadline

i mean, 2020 is a wash now.. We aren't going to compete while Marte is a Pirate. Could have been shipped off for a good haul

Good thing they waited like 4 months to go ahead with the surgery. Feel terrible for the dude. From a fan perspective, I look forward to GMNH getting asked about it and the impact it will have on next season's rotation and his answer being "Well, Chad Kuhl will be coming back".

Yeah, one of the twitter guys posted something like only 65% of two-time TJ surgery guys make it back to the majors period.

Bet he comes back as a reliever, if at all.

Feel bad for Jamo.

They should have have sold everyone at the trade deadline and hit a complete reset on everything.

Maybe they will in the offseason. They should. Let's hope LA loses the WS on three straight blown saves and pays out the ass for Vazquez

Why would the Pirates trade Vazquez when they are really excited about the team they have assembled?

I will be completely surprised if they did that. This management group often double-downs on just terrible ideas so they can prove something that nobody cares about.

Stop the wishy-washy, we're built to compete every year and just rebuild it. But I want someone other than whoever's in charge making shots to build it because I have zero faith in GMNH to be competent.

Either way he would have missed 2020 though, so waiting probably didn’t really matter.

Hopefully they will do some selling this offseason, they probably have to make everyone available, obviously marte and Vazquez, but bell has to be made available too, he might never be more valuable.

Man trading Bell would really not go over well. Maybe if they fired GMNH and the new guy came in and was very honest and transparent about just cleaning house. But idk as long as Nutting owns the team I think that would not be a good look

I mean Nutting has to know he's making millions whether the team is average or bad, so why not go bad and see what happens, and make more money. It's like they forgot everyone just dealt with 20 years of being insufferable.

Ultimately, I don't think the fans matter here because, the Pirates haven't done anything to win them over, or back after 2015 and the going cheap option. This just seems perplexing, because we all know they're not gonna go out and get pitchers on the market, so what are they even doing?

My timeframe comment was less about Taillon's recovery and more about their need to sell everyone ASAP instead of dicking along until two weeks after the trade deadline before determining that their 2020 rotation is already shot.

I think the decision about Bell needs to be based on their ability to compete while he is still under team control (through 2023) because the dude isn't signing a contract extension with them. Big thing for me in that regard is not wanting GMNH being the one to make that decision.

Didn't watch the game but saw this blurb on BD:
Hurdle had announced before the game that three unspecified relievers were not available for the game, although that didn’t stop him from limiting Kela and Crick to one inning each. Down one run, he may have chosen All-World closer Felipe Vazquez, who’d thrown just one pitch the night before and only seven innings in the last 28 days, but instead he chose rookie Geoff Hartlieb, of the 7.92 ERA.

Predictably, the Angels knocked two singles, moved up on a wild pitch, got a two-run single from Pujols through a drawn in infield and let him advance to second on the throw to the plate where he was able to score the third run of the inning on yet another single.
Houses need to be cleaned.
