Thanks Adam i saw that **** European sak of crap pitch for the jammers all the way back in 2013 and you know what he did? Gave up like 4 runs in 5 innings against the Williamsport crosscutters and Dylan couzens, he of being the son of an nfl player and a giant human being fame, **** on one of his pitches. Like totally **** on one of his pitches to the point where it hurt my ears when he made contact. Adam Frazier also played in that game and hit everything in sight and played shortstop. Frazier playing shortstop? LOL AMIRTIE? But he hit 321 for the jammers so i guess that explains a lot.

By my calculation 3.5 out of the first and 3 out of the 2nd wild card with games in hand over everyone but Cards.

Also random box score tidbits since I fell asleep

Frazier, Marte and Brault only three Bucs with a hit

Osuna pinch hit and did not hit a HR. Bum

I always thought the starter not making it 5 innings means official scorer can award the W to anyone, but after further research he/she is to award it to the most effective relief pitcher. Which is dumb because Musgrove still should get the W

imo the Pirates are in a good position. They either stand pat at the trade deadline, or sell. There are no albatrosses on the roster, so no need to trade anybody unless blown out of the water with a deal. Hopefully NH learns from his mistakes last year and does not barf up prospects for a mediocre veteran.

Isn't it a W for the starter if he goes 5? Otherwise whomever takes over after the starter leaves, if with a lead and the lead is never relinquished, gets the W?

no if the starter doesn't make it 5 it's the official scorer's discretion

it's also a lose-lose position.. you don't trade for anyone and the yinzers are up in arms if they're 3 out of the playoffs and stand pat

Interesting TIL re: official scorers. Thanks willy

And screw the yinzers. If you want to win, do it the right way. It's not like the Pirates pander to the fan base in the first place.

They are going to have to go on an extended run. There are so many teams ahead of them in the standing that it would take a significant stretch to leap frog so many teams to get into a WC spot.

The pitching needs to hold. It looks like somebody figured something out. Rodriguez is back into the circle of trust, and they need that. Archer hasn't been a disaster, and there haven't been any blow up recently, maybe just that Padres game. I think we'll know by the end of this week whether Taillon is returning in 2019 or not. If not, they need to trade for a starter. And even if he is returning, they need to trade for a starter.

Frazier getting his feet back under him closes up the only hole on the offense. You can basically just let Polanco rest until someone gets hurt in the OF, then you can force him back into the lineup. So, offensively, this is the group they are going to go with.

DSL2 lost, now 22-5, clearly in a tailspin. DSL1 had a big offensive day. Sergio Campana, one of their top signings from last year, who got off to a rough start, has turned into a hit machine and gotten his OPS near .900.

Jack Herman hit another HR and now has 7 in under 100 at bats in his low-A debut. One of the P2 writers must be in greensboro because they have been giving some in depth reports lately. Aside from hitting a ton of HR, it sounds like Martin is starting to become a more complete hitter. So there is definitely another wave beginning to form in Bradenton and Greesnsboro.

The upper wave really started to materialize this season with Reynolds and Newman, and they still have Kramer, Craig, Tucker Martin and Keller in AAA. There is nothing in Altoona this year, so there won't be any additions to this group in 2020, except maybe Glendening, that dude has been hitting a ton this year. Next year, between Altoona and Bradenton they will have: Cruz, Mitchell, Swaggerty, Castro, Sanchez, Bolton, Martin Herman, Bae and Kranick (who is turning a corner recently).

Damn. A couple of early morning meetings and people starting stealing my thunder. Another solid win. Frazier's career splits by month:

April: 266/329/360/689
May: 257/335/378/713
June: 260/323/367/690
July: 356/398/576/975
August: 309/368/471/839
September: 265/325/431/756

Slow start to the season, hot July, solid August, cooling off to end the season seems to be his m.o.

No hits for Moran last night, but he actually made some decent plays defensively. I want to see a full season of this kind of performance out of him, but with no arbitration until 2021 and no free agency until 2024, I'm really beginning to think he's improved himself enough that beginning to work Hayes at other infield positions shouldn't be out of the question.

Dickie Dunn is Concerned About our Top Prospects:

- Mitch Keller: It's annoying that AAA website don't show projected starters for more than the next game.
- Ke'Bryan Hayes: 0fer with Ks in a rehab start. Yes it's rehab work, but I'm really starting to be concerned about his bat. Been poking around at different prospect projections and most put him out as a 700 OPS hitter at-best in his MLB prime. He still has plenty of time to grow into something more, but I really don't believe he's ever going to have the bat for 3B.
- Travis Swaggerty: Dude just hated June. 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs.
- Oneil Cruz: Had the night off.
- Cole Tucker: 2 for 4.

First round pick Quinn Priester made his debut for the GCL Pirates yesterday. 2.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K.

Pirates signed 21 guys on the first day of the 2019-2020 international signing period.

There's an article on P2 about how messed up the whole system is right now. Basically the hard cap has resulted in teams getting commitments from these kids when they are like 12, so the signing day is just a formality. BA has apparently decided to stop ranking players because essentially these guys stop being scouted after age 13 because they're already signed. So there aren't reliable reports.

But anyway, of those 21, we have the bonus number for 7 of them, a total of 2,865,000 of known commitments and there could be other 6 figure numbers in that group that we don't know about. Four of the five big bonuses went to pitchers, which is interesting.

I guess Adam Berry was on the Fan today and alluded to the fact that there might be Taillon news today...and it's probably not good.
