What are the chances he's been taking PEDs? I'm suspicious of anyone who has a season turnaround like he's having.

I think low. He's always been a physical monster. Just had a shitty swing.

The offense is of course back to being invisible, but this seems like a good time to reopen the “Archer sucks ass” debate.

That trade looking worse by the inning. Archer to the bullpen may be a thing.

They are still the "starter" so it's a stupid designation.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opener_(baseball)
In Game 7 of the 1924 World Series, the Washington Senators had their starting pitcher, Curly Ogden, pitch to only two batters and then brought in a left-handed pitcher, with the intent of locking the opposing team into their right-handed lineup. Similarly, in the 1990 National League Championship Series, the Pittsburgh Pirates decided to open the game with right-handed relief pitcher Ted Power before installing the announced starting pitcher, left-hander Zane Smith, in an attempt to get the Cincinnati Reds to change their batting lineup. In 1993, the Oakland Athletics had a poor starting rotation, and manager Tony La Russa and pitching coach Dave Duncan split their pitchers into platoons, with a core of dedicated relief pitchers. Though the experiment lasted for only six games before the Athletics returned to a traditional starting rotation, Ron Darling, a member of the 1993 Athletics, called it "a precursor to all the things that you see today".

Might be time to sign Dallas Keuchel and/or call up Mitch Keller.

Dudes a 27 year old reliever with less than 7 MLB innings under his belt. He looked solid in his limited appearances, but usually when teams do this “opener” bullshit it’s with a proven reliever and/or someone that can go at least 3 innings. Not somebody with two weeks of service time.

+2

Also wow bell homers again and clay holmes with his best outing ever. Diaz is hitting now and Newman has hit above his weight class.

Very encouraging to see him have a good run. Throughout the minors he often looked overmatched for long periods and then would i guess adjust and hit everything till promotion. I'd counted him out but he may hang on in the majors if he can periodically get hot for a time

That's my positive spin for the game. But also time to be good marte

- I saw Bell hit another home run but was unaware that he put it in the river again. Pirates hardest hit HR since they started with the Statcast stuff in 2015.

- Lyles gets the start tonight; the starters for the Dodgers series are TBD, TBD, and TBD. That seems bad.

- Len Elmore with another rousing 0 for 3 effort. He's batting 063 with an OPS of 125, both of which are really dragging on his 210/289/272/561 career split. Throw this **** tomato can back to AAA and get someone with some semblance of a possible future up here.

This team to me is pretty unbearable.

Terrible pitching, only one real run producer, and seemingly no help from upper management to rectify any issue.
