Operation Orange Squeeze - PA Turnpike
Anyone read about this?
http://operationorangesqueeze.com/impacts-you.html
PA State Troopers will be undercover in construction vehicles to nail speeders in construction zones. So basically, if you're driving from Breezewood to Pittsburgh, you get to pay for the luxury of driving 35-55mph almost the entire way.

I feel like there will be 10 mile stretches of barrels with no construction, with random dump trucks with state troopers with radar guns and a radio.
The 10 mile stretches of barrels are already there.

I'm 100% sure this will happen. Plus add in the fact that huge stretches will be "under construction" during the day but you still better not speed at night when no one is working or else you risk increased fines/points. There's really no reason at all to take the turnpike from Breezewood to Donegal as it's always under construction. You can make much better time taking 30 and 31 and you don't have to pay extra to drive on those roads.I feel like there will be 10 mile stretches of barrels with no construction, with random dump trucks with state troopers with radar guns and a radio.

The parts of the turnpike where the speed limit drops to 55 MPH for miles with no barrels, construction equipment, or anything else in sight are the best.

You should live closer Somerset. The parts of the turnpike where the speed limit drops to 55 MPH for miles with no barrels, construction equipment, or anything else in sight are the best.

Yeah. I stopped using the TP *snicker* a while ago. I'll either take 30 or work my way down to I-68. Moot point now, though. Once I get on I-76/80/90 I stay on it for 11 hours as I live 1 mile from I-90 in western WI.

if you don't exceed the speed limit you should be fine, no?

Changing topic (I'm allowed to do that because I started the thread ) what are real estate prices like in WI anyway? I really think I'm going to end up abandoning normal society sooner rather than later and I need to figure out where to buy my land and go insane off the grid. Maine is still my first choice.Yeah. Yeah, but the speed limit's going to be 35-55mph. No sense paying to drive the turnpike when you can take other roads and make better time.if you don't exceed the speed limit you should be fine, no?

Agreed, take the fastest path.Yeah, but the speed limit's going to be 35-55mph. No sense paying to drive the turnpike when you can take other roads and make better time.if you don't exceed the speed limit you should be fine, no?

Housing costs were superb. We were going to buy the house we were renting in NC. 1200sqft. When I took the new job we bought a house here in WI. 2800sqft. The cost was only 2.8% more. As for just acreage? No idea. Lots of cheap land in Alaska.

I drive breezewood to pittsburgh basically weekly and i have yet to see Nywhere below 55. A year or so ago there was like a 2 mile stretch where it was 40 but that has been gone for a while.Yeah, but the speed limit's going to be 35-55mph. No sense paying to drive the turnpike when you can take other roads and make better time.if you don't exceed the speed limit you should be fine, no?
I just did it tonight. Also, the turnpike/70 is still easily the fastest route for me to go from pittsburgh to rockville. Its not really even close.

I drove from where I live in Bensalem to the Cranberry exit and back last weekend on the Turnpike. It's a 321 mile trip one way. I probably had an average speed of 70 and luckily I didn't get pulled over. I saw probably around 5-6 cops each trip, but didn't notice any undercover cars. I was definitely speeding through some work zones though (most were inactive) and if there was an undercover cop there I guess I got lucky.

I drive the turnpike around 12 over and cops generally won't bother you at that speed. Much more lucrative fish for them to fry

I tend to stay to the 10% rule. Drive 10% above the speed limit and you'll be fine. This changes depending on the traffic of course... If I find a nice group driving 10-15 above the limit, I'll join.

40 and up, i go 9-11 over the speed limit. Below that i go 5-6 over.

I set the CC at 11 over on highways. Keeps me from going faster. In the south that's 81mph so that's a pretty reasonable pace.

I usually add 5-10 miles and then go faster during stretches where the cops can't get you, like bridges, tunnels, etc. If an overpass or an exit is coming up, places they like to hide, I slow down to 5 over.

I thought those orange barrels around Somerset were embedded into the road. You should live closer Somerset. The parts of the turnpike where the speed limit drops to 55 MPH for miles with no barrels, construction equipment, or anything else in sight are the best.

We're driving up on Saturday. This is good to know. Is it already in practice? If it is then we may come in from the south.

Im going back to pittsburgh tomorrow i will put up a scouting report. I noticed nothing last night.

The turnpike is just so much faster than any other way. I do, however, prefer entering the city from the south.
