I really miss 43.
I did not truly appreciate his greatness.

Regarding the Boswell tweets...

If he would have been in high school, that's one thing. That kind of language, while incredibly stupid to put on social media, should not be used to punish adults for the stuff they said as teenagers.

But he was 22...yeesh. They do say the prefrontal cortex isn't fully developed until age 25

I'd say that people that play with balls for a living are developmentally stunted to begin with. Four years of 'how to be a football player' classes are not going to give you a very broad worldview.

Boswell went to Rice. Those places have more requirements to get in than say Alabama and such.

Yes, I know he went to Rice. He went to class with noted scholar Vance McDonald.

I find it more offensive that someone will go and seemingly look to destroy a person's life for stupid things they said on Twitter, versus actual poor play. This world sucks.

What he said wasn't even bad, and the fact that people actively do this sucks.
I doubt the person who dug up the tweets is a LGBTQ ally. Just an ass who probably is as homophobic, but wants to bring Boswell down.

That said, his tweets are garbage. But he shouldn't be told to kill himself. One doesn't justify the other.

Rice isn’t going to let idiots in. Not the best players/college to try and make a point.

Cool, you've aligned with the NCAA regarding student-athlete integrity.

Good luck with that.

I feel like it became "taboo" to call people nanner well before 2013. I'm thinking like between 2005 and 2010 popular culture stopped being homophobic.

I've been watching a popular TV show from the early 2000's with my wife that and there's lots of homophobic stuff, and it's like the definition of a non-offensive show. I think the point is just that talking like that was common place for basically everyone. So even though Boswell was late to the party, we're learning recently that athete culture/twitter just ignored that societal change.

No. I’m just saying that if you’re going to argue your point of student-athlete integrity, maybe you shouldn’t use a player from that type of college. Use one from Alabama or OSU. While I agree that at places like OSU there is basically no such thing as a student athlete, but these colleges that is quite different. Basically I’m saying you chose a dumb way to argue your point.

I think on this specific issue, I don't think there's a difference between the school.

Eminem was the most popular rapper alive in the late 90's early 00s and used flagrantly homophobic lyrics on nearly every song for his first 3 albums. While he took major heat from various groups, in no way did it really put a dent in his popularity.

Could I imagine him rapping and using the same lyrics in today's culture? Absolutely not. It's amazing how fast that shift was.

Are you referring to Friends by chance? I just watched it for the first time this year and was really surprised at the amount of homophobic jokes.

For what its worth, I think of UNC as the poster child for bad student-athlete stuff, in part because they're awful and also because I used to want to go there.

There are a lot of issues being discussed here, and many good points. Cultural relativism, the merits of scholar athletes, etc.

Somehow I don't feel like it, tho. Weird.

Yes there is. They don’t just admit anyone at these schools even if you’re a gifted athlete.

Why are you protecting a TV show from the early 2000s? Are you Ray Romano?

I don't disagree that there are schools with higher academic standards. But that wouldn't weed out dudes that still think it's rad to use homophobic slurs. And that character trait extends to athletes independent of their academic abilities.

I wasn’t saying that it would. I was arguing against the “four years of how to be a football player” classes by saying this isn’t one of the schools you should start that argument with.

Not for nothing, but I was wearing my 43 jersey yesterday, over my Bleier 20 t-shirt. I shall be donning that combo from here on out.
