Just checked mine because I knew it was a ridiculous number. Combined credit limit of $205K, which seems like it should be illegal.
Will you buy the pirates or at least use some of that credit to pay for players at Pitt

I did not open any new accounts in the months that it took hits.
Did you close any?

I'm at around $110k combined limit (which includes a few cards - like a Quicksilver - on which I've never made a single charge), plus a NPSL AmEx. Current (comb) balance is around $6k (still paying off the combo of vacay and HVAC).

Nope, none opened or closed. My assumption is big credit card balances those months.

****'s sake, how may credit cards do you have open?!
Less than you would think.

Capital One: 50k
Chase: 40k
Discover: 30k
Chase British Airways: 20k
Citi: 20k
Delta Amex: 10k
USAA: 10k

After that it's nonsense like Home Depot, Pottery Barn, and Crate and Barrel to make use of promo offers for large purchases. British Airways and Delta Amex will be getting closed because I don't feel like paying the annual fee. Most of them don't get used but really don't see a reason to close them.

I'll call Nutting and offer him $205k in IOUs, which are as good as money.

Those are some insane limits. I think my CSP is around $24k, which is my highest, and completely unnecessary. That said, a few months ago I did put close to $15k on it, so I'm not going to complain. $50k, though, on a Capital One card? **** stupid.

I applied for the Capital One card 10 years ago. I was making barely over $40k a year and my wife was nannying under the table. Initial credit limit was $30k. I don't know what the hell they're doing over there.

My first capital one card was like a $500 limit lol

I remember applying for it at a Pizza Hut in Altoona. Random

I remember applying for credit cards when I wasn't even 18 to get free tshirts at Pens games back in the day haha.

I got my first two credit cards the summer between HS and college. $800 combined. I bought a bunch of new hockey gear, then got myself a game-weight Kevin Stevens jersey. The day before it was delivered he signed an offer sheet with Boston.

He re-signed with the Pens, but that was a real facepalm for me. lol

At 27 years, my Bank of America Card, which was originally a BayBank card I got when I was employed there part time in 1995, is older than some of you on this board.

I’m pretty sure that my Discover card is my oldest card at nearly 17 years. I definitely closed the first few cards I had long ago.

Discover is also my oldest. Probably around 10-12 years.

I have three credit cards: a Cabela's Mastercard that I don't use much any more, an Amazon Prime Visa, and an AMEX Blue Cash Preferred. About 100k total credit limit across all three. The AMEX is for gas and groceries, and I use Amazon for pretty much everything else. I don't carry balances and treat them as charge cards unless there's some deal for a zero-interest window. Other than what is on those cards at any given moment, I'm otherwise debt-free. Credit score is somewhere around 815 or so.

Got the Amazon card during the pandemic in 2020. The Cabela's card I've probably had for 25 years or so; the AMEX since 2017.

re: student loans

I'll put this here so it doesn't get buried in the **** show that is the Political thread.

If you are on an IDR plan or doing PSLF, Mohela just issued a blanket forbearance covering September thru December of this year, so retroactive to back before the loan payment restart. If you paid in October or November you can get it refunded. This forbearance period will count towards forgiveness (IDR/PSLF).

Effectively that means I will get credit for making a monthly payment from June 2020 to January 2024 without paying a dime. So 42 payments, or $18,800 in forgiveness.

Mohela just got smashed with millions in fines for mishandling the program and it's thought that this forbearance is a pause for them to get their **** together. Since they were integral to the meritless case that found it's way to SCOTUS all I can do is laugh and laugh and hope the Missouri-based **** show keeps on keeping on.

I'm still kicking myself. Aundrea's is a J code loan, and there's been $0 in assistance throughout this whole drama.

My Chase limit was just preemptively increased to $45k for absolutely no reason.

What sort of interest rates are on these cards?

My main chase account is 10% and Amazon Chase is a ridiculous 22% but I always pay the charges off before the interest kicks in.

I would bet that most cards have rates between 15-30%. Mine are all in that range, though I haven’t paid an interest fee in decades.

I've had my 10% card since 2011 and I had a credit score > 800 at the time.
