Which is a shame, because it should have been the climax and end of the series with the war ending.

Imagine what this show could have been if Darabont never left.

I just noticed it has a completely different showrunner.
I hadn't realized they made this change, but this could be good for the show. Gimple came off a pretentious, self-important prick and while he's apparently now in charge of the creative direction of the Walking Dead properties, at least he's no longer as hands-on.

Angela Kang wrote a few of the better episodes in the first few seasons ("Chill" among them...the one where Beth died) and some of the actors said the atmosphere on sets during filming of Season Nine was noticeably different, in a good way.

Absolutely, would have been killer had this been on HBO or Showtime or something.

Saw the first 2 episodes yesterday, and I actually liked both episodes. I was digging the politics involved in managing 3 different locations. But I have to say...

Is is just me or anytime TWD includes humorous dialogue, it feels cringey and weird.

I honestly had no clue that the new season started until I saw this thread pop up. Am I just 2 episodes behind?

Wouldn't it be better if none of this was announced? Or at the very least, there wasn't a **** countdown to when the main character will die?

Rick leaving has to be the final nail in the coffin, right? I mean, AMC will milk it for all its worth and TWD will die a slow painful death, but it can't survive without Rick.

The only reason AMC let the Rick exit leak was to drum up ratings and get people to "tune in and see how our hero dies!" It makes no sense otherwise. But it backfired and I highly doubt the show will ever recover. AMC completely screwed the pooch on TWD in so many ways over the years, that I feel like they deserve this.

I haven't watched yet this season, but plan to catch up. To me, once Rick is gone, they need to end it soon. If they go past this season I think I'm done.

I've actually enjoyed the show for the most part, but after 8 years it's time to end it.

It all depends on what they do. I'm still enjoying the show, and I don't think Rick being gone will really change that.

I'm pretty much hanging on until Rick dies. After that, I'll give it 1-2 episodes but it'll likely end up as netflix fodder after that. The Walking Dead comic died with Carl last year. When Rick goes, it's truly over and I have no need to watch for source material, even with them getting to the Whisperers.

I'm looking forward to post-Rick TWD as it will allow the writers to further explore truly interesting and fascinating characters like Tara and Enid.

Obvious jokes aside, this season's writing has been better, but the source material has and will always be Rick and Carl driving it. I am not interested in the universe that much without them living it.

It'll basically be Fear the Walking Dead. What's the point of two basically identical zombie shows?

I really want a World War Z tv show (the book, not the awful movie). Give me a 10 episode mockumentary about the zombie apocalypse please. HBO or Netflix would be fine.

Yes. It's amazing how much better the book was compared to the movie that really just used bits and pieces and took the title.

In regards to FTWD and TWD - I believe they merge at some point and get it over with.

So looks like Rick is going to be done-in by a conveniently placed piece of stray rebar. Wtf?

Kind of lame if so. But this show has proven itself perfectly capable of taking a lame route out.

or even lamer, leave that hanging while we get a few character backstory episodes.

Spoiler
He does, he gets taken away by Jadis in the helicopter. Apparently for a spin-off/movie last I heard.
