"I want to build trust with the fans"

sheds more salary. Perceived talent or not, shedding salary, means I hope they recoup it somewhere.

#WhiteSox acquiring RHP Ivan Nova from the #Pirates, pending a review of medical records of players involved, sources tell me and @ByRobertMurray.

Freeing salary for Machado or Harper or fallout from the article I read earlier today that was titled "Pirates expect to keep Cervelli"? Gonna have to keep a two comma salary so in response we need to drop one.

Taillon
Archer
Williams
Musgrove
Kingham?
Keller?
Holmes?
Sign someone lol?

I just have to think they're signing someone for the rotation. They can't just trade a guy penciled in for the rotation and not replace him, right? right?

So much of American life is packed with anger and vitriol that the moments of sincere generosity, compassion and kindness stand out.

Such was the case when baseball player Josh Harrison, an eight-year veteran of the Pittsburgh Pirates whose contract was not renewed this year, prepared to move away from the city last month.

Rather than pack up the contents of their home in the Wexford area of the North Hills, Mr. Harrison and his wife, Brittney, decided to donate almost everything they would have packed to the Light of Life Rescue Mission, based in Allegheny West on the North Side.

The Harrisons donated the contents of two bedrooms, their living room and their kitchen, including pans, dishes and even food. A 26-foot-long truck was needed to haul everything away.
Good dude.

J-Hay is a good dude. I'll miss him, even though I do believe they're better without him at this point

If the Pirates have a strength, it is the rotation.

I would hope so. I think if they wanted to upgrade the rotation, the move would be to push Nova out. I would think a reunion with Morton or Happ would be more likely than signing Keuchel.

I'm an idiot for saying this but I'm interested to see if there is an endgame for the shedding of all of these "pesky" salaries.

It all depends on Williams. If his year last year was a fluke (and many people believe it was), they have a 1/2 in Taillon, maybe a #3 in Archer and the rest 4/5's. Not really a strength.

I'm not against them trading Nova, it's just a bit silly to call the rotation a strength. Especially when the cupboard is empty, save for Keller (if he can turn it around).

Just under $67M, and that includes 1.25M retained for Kang and Harrison buyouts.

Williams probably isn't a 3.11 ERA pitcher, but it seems like he's definitely a sub 4 ERA guy that can give you 25-30 starts a year.

screw it, sign Keuchel.. I already had them at 25 mil-ish less than 2016 payroll, and now you're cutting 9ish more off. Pay Keuchel 20 a year and you're still cheaper than 2 years ago and light years better
lol

So Machado at 30 mil per year keeps them under 100 still.. perfect

Unfortunately, I think the calculation is simply that Nova is not $8M better than Kingham. I'm thinking that Kingham also has to make the team, or would be exposed on waivers and he's not suited for a bullpen role.

I think this exposes my primary gripe with the NH and Nutting approach. Prospects play themselves out of consideration at the MLB level, as opposed to forcing themselves into consideration with MiLB and MLB performances.

Here's a little write up fangraphs did on the guy they got from the White Sox.
Yordi Rosario is a pretty standard teenage projection arm. He has a prototypical build for his age and sits in the low-90s without exhibiting mechanical violence. His ability to throw strikes with both his fastball, and shapely curveball, is advanced for his age. His stuff is very average right now but he could be quite exciting if things break right.

And he's from where I live now. I know his people. #awkward
