Did anyone else read GMNH's comments on the Nova trade? It wreaked of penny pinching.
Didn't have to read anything to know that.

Edit: Also:
Highest WAR amongst positional players drafted and developed by NH:

1) Mercer 7.5
2) Holt 6.6
3) Alvarez 6.4
4) Frazier 4.9
5) Grossman 4.1

We really need someone with a special set of skills to plant incriminating emails on Nutting's Windows ME computer. Something so severe that MLB will force him to divest ownership. Who's with me?

It is very possible that frazier, who hasn't spent an entire major league season in the majors, can very well pass pedro this season in WAR

For anybody who says NH is a good GM, this is evidence he is not. If you're going to play the small market mini-violin, you have to kick ass in the drafting and developing department.

Which is a hell of an indictment of Pedro. God damn son.

David Todd has been losing his **** on twitter since the Nova trade. Apparently some source of his is saying that the goal is to get the payroll down to 75M.

I think this is more of an indictment on MLB. The fact that a perennial playoff team like Cleveland is forced to dump salary when they are operating at around half the payroll of other contending teams is revealing. I hope the cable deals crater in 10 years after people tune out the perennial Cubs/Dodgers vs Yankees/Red Sox WS.

I have to believe they already are cratering, but due to cord cutting more than anything. Look at ESPN.

The biggest issue I have with the cable deals is the home team reaps all the revenue from the deals. If I remember correctly, it takes two teams to field a baseball game.

Yep, that's the model. I think Selig was perfectly happy with the Yankees playing the Generals over and over again in the 90's, and that allowed for the current financial model to entrench itself. The only difference now being that the elimination of steroids and speed reduced the ability for guys to maintain value into their 30's so organizations with money had to seek other ways to exploit their resource advantage besides buying all the good FA's.

I'm getting more and more weary of the Pirates not getting a replacement for Nova and going with an opener.

If the opener concept takes off, I wonder if MLB will try to get the DH implemented in the NL. They've done plenty to try to speed up the game, but this opener concept will only slow it down more.

The DH is evil.

It's like just going ahead and making all hits on the QB illegal, or shrinking the goals.

Call me a Ned apologist if you will, but I wouldn't mind if the NL adopted the DH. It's no fun watching a pitcher flailing at the ball as if he can't wait to sit down. It kills rallies and causes unnecessary pitching changes.

Rosenthal reporting that the Pirates are in on Tulowitzki. It would be cool, but I doubt it cause he'll basically have his choice of venue and want to play somewhere in CA.

Two real options at this point are Galvis and Ahmed.
