Nothing much to argue with there. The Buccos are probably an 85ish win team and have the salary room to sign a big FA and still be near their payroll from 3 years ago so it's frustrating watching them do nothing.
I'm sorry, I asked only for the above the line fans to weigh in.

About 90 on average. 110 when going for it and 70 when rebuilding. Instead they found a way to be 70 when not rebuilding or going for it

I think payroll is a dumb measurement to point to for "trying to win" arguments. ymmv

If places like Cleveland and Baltimore can operate at the levels they are, there is no reason for the Pirates to pretend that they are as poor as Tampa and Oakland.

For context, MLB annual revenues are double that of the NHL.
For context, Sidney Crosby earns roughly the same amount of money as josh Harrison did over the past two years.

Garth Brooks has now done spring training with three crummy small market and one crummy big market team.

Why? Will Ken Griffey Jr now show up to sing at country concerts?

Is this, like, an experience that's actually for sale?

Yeah, the MLB has about the stupidest system imaginable.

Oh no. Heard a sound byte where Musgrove said Lariano was like the dad of the clubhouse.

Is there any way to check to see if Kingham has options left?

I feel like they opened that spot for him, he doesn't profile as a bullpen piece.

He doesn't. Was granted a fourth option for last season due to his TJ surgery.

I suspect that's why NH dumped Nova and opened up the 5th rotation spot. I think this is them trying to not repeat the Hanson situation from 2017. In 2017 they stashed Hanson on the MLB 25 man in a role where he'd get no playing time, a role in which he was dreadful and they ended up cutting him anyways. If they tried to stash Kingham in some bullpen role where he'd only pitch twice a month, he would suck in that role and waste the roster spot. So the solution would be to give him the 5th starter job to see if he could sink or swim. Either he earns the job and plays well, or he sucks so much that teams wouldn't bother to claim him when they sent him back down.

hmm, actual baseball analysis that doesn't involve whining about money and/or ownership. not sure how to respond to this but ill give it a shot:

I see the reasoning behind the decision and it make sense. but by the same token, starting pitching depth is a luxury, and this rotation has two dudes that have had history of injuries (Musgrove, taillon). I get that nova wasn't all that good. but we have no idea if kingham or someone else could be as effective as nova.
