And this one:
... Carlsen also believes that yes, blinking, can negatively effect championship level chess play. From his own studies he notes that most of his opponents average 18 blinks a minute which results in up to a full minute less "eye time" on the board in standard format tournaments when compared to Carlsen. He states that with discipline he has cut his blinks down to 13 per minute.

Accumulating so many advantages explains the impressive sustained success of the Norwegian grandmaster

Check out Magnus when he's wearing a heart rate monitor. for example: In the 960 blitz matches v. Nakamura, Naka is often above 130bpm while Magnus just rolls along at 65-72.

I argue chess at the elite grandmaster level is as grueling a sport/game there is, physically and emotionally.

"American chess champion and world No. 2 Fabiano Caruana told ESPN that he’ll drop from 135 to 120 pounds during intense tournaments."

Igor Rausis stripped his GM title, banned for 6 years for using illegal use of technology (cell phone ) during games. GM Shirov has an interesting discussion about it here:

The case against him was really interesting, because he was caught by a hidden camera installed in the BATHROOM!

Just curious if @crusherstasiak and other active players can share their thoughts on the illegal use of technology. IMO this must be extremely prevalent during games at the lower levels. I haven't played active competitive chess in about 2 decades, but I think for me the new technology would suck away all the joy of playing.

I don't think it's the lone reason, but it's certainly one reason why moving to shorter time formats is better. It's much harder/impossible to cheat in a blitz match.

Nakamura has implied on more than one occasion that an opponent has cheated during a blitz game. And **** ** if I didn't have a long winded reply to both this and @Tomas 's post only to have hit a wrong key and deleted it

I stopped playing live chess on Chess.com for over a year because of the cheating. How did I, an international grandpatzer, know someone was cheating? I'd download the games where I'd get zapped in twenty moves then run them on Rybka where I learned my opponent made the best possible move 15 times.

I mean in over the board tournaments... online? yeah... Bullet is pretty much your only option to eliminate cheating.

Standard chess is a tough one to do online with all the cheating possibilities, but you can definitely do Blitz/bullet stuff. Sucks, but it is what it is.

re hand/brain - i'm guessing morey will play naka's followers and naka willtell him the piece to move but not where -say 'bishop'- and morey will move either bishop (if both are on the board) wherever.

re nakamura: is world top 5 in blitz and is the best bullet player in the world. 2019 was a down year for him but in 18 he won the grand chess tour. 5x us chess champion he was once the second highest rated classical player on earth and one of the handful of players to surpass 2800 classical (bobby fisher never got to 2800-then again fisher didn't have the benefit of stockfish and komodo)

i find naka to be a pretty entertaining watch on his twitch channel. his father is japanese, his mother is american and he was raised from an early age by his step-father, an indian fide master and renowned chess educator.
