K State hired Chris Klieman, North Dakota State's coach to replace Snyder. Seems like a great hire imo, but their fans are very Mad Online on the twitter about this.. anyone know more about this situation?
There was an NDSU fan that called in to Mark Packer's show a week or so ago that explained a lot of this. K-State's current AD is Gene Taylor, who came aboard in April 2017. Taylor was AD at NDSU from 2001-14. Taylor helped get NDSU from Division II to Division I FCS, and then was the AD who oversaw the beginnings of NDSU's run of FCS success - they've won six of the last seven FCS titles, the first few under Craig Bohl (now at Wyoming) and the last few under Chris Klieman, who was Bohl'd DC at NDSU.

They're now honked off because...their old AD came and hired Klieman, I guess? Apparently, the NDSU fanbase doesn't understand that this is how the industry works - AD/Coach starts at smaller program, builds it up, and then eventually moves on to a job with a higher ceiling/pay grade if they want to. Granted, some coaches never do, but this happens all the time.
Ah I see. I'm gonna guess that there was someone they really wanted.. going out on a limb some K State alum, and now they're pissed the AD brought his buddy along. There are a lot worse buddies to bring along, however. Seems like a decent AD/Coach team
It's a weird situation all around.

NDSU fans are upset because Klieman was a big part of their ascension to FCS supremacy - and they really are the closest thing that division has to an Alabama or - to borrow from a lower division - Mount Union. In FCS/Division I-AA history, no school has ever had a run quite like NDSU has had the last seven years. Like I said, though, this is how it works most of the time.

K-State fans are upset but I don't know who they thought they were going to get. Bill Snyder worked miracles there given the lack of resources when he started and the isolated location. And it's not like Taylor & Klieman don't have a track record of success...they absolutely do. Taylor oversaw a significant increase of resources at NDSU thanks to fundraising campaigns and that was a huge factor in NDSU's run to the top. Klieman was 67-6 there in five seasons as a head coach, and he was DC for the wildly-successful coach before that. And it wasn't like they were coming from areas that were geographically removed from Manhattan; Klieman's already familiar with that geographical footprint.

Whenever I see NDSU and their block/italics font on their jerseys I feel like I should be watching on a 50 inch box TV in standard definition

Yeah, I don't know how Nike hasn't updated that yet. That looks like it came from the create-a-team template from NCAA Football 2005.

At least they finally ditched the colored stripe up the sides of the torso of the jersey.

Speaking of the schools of the MVC, I’m not real clear why YSU wants to play in a conference with absolutely no geographic ties vs the NEC which has two schools within 90 min and another in probably 2-1/2 hours.

With UND joining they are now assured of two trips to the dakotas every year. Makes sense.

I suppose it must be competition level but they got destroyed this year.

That might explain why. The NEC kind of reminds me of the old big east. small, kind of good, but if you want to be serious, you need to GTFO.

going to the NEC would be like voluntarily going from the SEC to the Sun Belt

Well then I guess they could go to the Colonial but Orono is kind of like going to a Dakota.

Disappointed that they took UNLV's neon lights off the Las Vegas Bowl turf

Lame to not have college Gameday to wake up to, no full slate of games.

But the bowl games over time will be nice. And I got my flight + hotel (haven’t actually paid for either in years thanks to points) for Orlando to watch PSU whoop Kentucky.

Alexa, play “Zombie Nation” set to “We Are Penn State”.

When i saw that Ned had the last post ITT, i fully expected him to ruin the good vibes of minor bowl/FCS football discussion. Instead, he makes this observation, and imo, this might be the only good take that Ned has made in 755 posts.

Watching a game on TV from that place is terrible on the eyes. But I'm proud to say that 5 years ago, we brought our visine and beat those clowns, something Maine had no shot at yesterday.

This entire tweet is hilarious to me: https://twitter.com/starrettjason/statu ... 9347089408
@starrettjason

If Justin Fields (No. 2 overall QB in 2018 class) does ultimately transfer, a wild trend would continue.

A top-2 QB recruit has transferred in every class dating to 2010.
The list is Hunter Johnson, Shea Patterson, Jacob Eason, Blake Barnett, Kyle Allen, Max Browne, Gunner Kiel, Jeff Driskel, and Phillip Sims. All number one or two ranked QBs in their class and not a single one of them is any good.
