If I were emperor of college football, here'd be my 8-team playoff:
Friday, December 14
6 Ohio State at 3 Notre Dame 8pm ESPN
Saturday, December 15
7 UCF at 2 Clemson 1pm ABC
5 Georgia at 4 Oklahoma 4pm ABC
8 Washington at 1 Alabama 8pm ABC
Semifinals and Championship played on their regularly-scheduled date.
Instead, we'll have a ton of fighting about the 4 spot and it'll be Bama, Clemson, ND, Oklahoma.

Sign me up for OP's rule.
I'm still irritated that ND is in.

Sign me up for OP’s as well. All Power 5 conference champions should get in and then you fill in from there. I’m truly surprised it hasn’t been expanded yet.

5 P5 conference champs, G5 highest ranked team, two wild cards. There will be controversy over the wild cards, sure.. but much less controversy deciding teams 7 and 8 than #4 imo

I would qualify the G5 team that they need to be ranked in the top ten.

Maybe, but I'd add that for conference champs too then. Pitt or NW would have no business being in, but would have been one upset away from finding theirselves in a playoff. Maybe top 15I would qualify the G5 team that they need to be ranked in the top ten.

I guess I'm not a fan of having any ranking requirements because it opens the door for more controversy and politics, which is what this should be getting rid of.

I didn't spell it out in my original post because UCF's win yesterday made it unnecessary. But I'd say that for a G5 team to qualify, they have to win their conference championship AND have 0 or 1 loss. Had Memphis won that game yesterday, the winner of Fresno-Boise wouldn't get in. I think most can agree that if a G5 (or an independent if you want to count ND, BYU, Army) has even one loss, it probably won't have the resume to be included in the 8.I would qualify the G5 team that they need to be ranked in the top ten.

It's a fair point. It's pretty pathetic that the power 5 teams play games against the likes of Citadel, Austin Peay, and Mercer. But on the flip side, those 1-AA programs use those 'buy' games to fund a lot of their team's budget for the year or maybe even much of the athletic department's budget. Why? OSU gave up too many points. I don't see anything wrong with that.

I understand they make money off those games, but the only reason they can get away with it is because they play for the SEC. If LSU played for any other conference they would barely crack the top 25. Their offense is putrid. SEC teams have an artificially inflated rankings because of their conference. So SEC teams Strength of schedule will be inflated. It's a fair point. It's pretty pathetic that the power 5 teams play games against the likes of Citadel, Austin Peay, and Mercer. I wholeheartedly agree with you on this one. There is this mythical god-like status given to the SEC every year and I've never quite figured out why that is (cough ESPN cough). Some years, they have a number of strong teams but how can you really tell when very few of them will never leave the South to go play someone in a true road game?

Want to know what it's like to be a Georgia fan?
There have been 290 total plays run in Alabama & Georgia’s last 2 matchups.
@AlabamaFTBL led for 9 of them (3%) and won both games.
