We just got one of those Home Depot financing coupons, so we are going to replace our dishwasher, fridge, range, and over the range microwave. The dishwasher and fridge we bought when we moved in, the range and microwave were already there.

The top-rated brands on Tom's, CNet, etc. are all on sale at Home Depot right now...good timing. The only one that isn't on sale is the Bosch dishwasher--with two young children, I am not going the budget route with a new dishwasher. That thing looks awesome.

We bought Samsung appliances from Lowe’s several years ago and I have regretted it ever since. Not only did I pick poor models, but I also can’t get anyone to work on them when they’ve inevitably broken down. That’s probably not a big deal for people that don’t live in the middle of nowhere like I do. Next time I buy, I’m going with a local place that has a repairman.

Is "fascia" also a home thing? If it is, I also don't know what that is.
No, it's a British car thing.

I assume then the term refers to whichever part most recently fell off.

We have two shiplap areas in our house. Wait no three.
This is how I know you’re a disappointment

I would not buy Samsung appliances after knowing so many who have had issues with them, from microwaves to washers.

I have GE Adora kitchen and Samsung washer/dryer. The dishwasher just started leaking last week, first time in almost 5 years. I bet that thing runs average 6 times a week for the last 5 years.

Our basement was finished with that owens corning or whatever walls. We had it gutted and drywalled, and got new everything. So pumped with how it turned out. Before and after below.

Karndean for the flooring? That looks just like ours when we redid the basement over covid
Lifeproof sterling oak. feels great on the feet
Personal preference, obviously, but I think they'd brighten the room up further painted white.
They are now white NTP :)

Any reason for not running the banister to the bottom of the stairs?

Did you go right over the concrete with the lifeproof?

That banister was like that when we moved in. I assume it’s because it’s a royal pain to get furniture in.

Yep they put that right over the concrete I believe

Cool. I see things online that say to do that and then other places say put underlayment or subfloor

I put lifeproof vinyl in my basement as well. Also right on the concrete.

Lifeproof has the underlayment built in. Don’t need it

Had to call out a pest control company today. We had a few mice back in the summer that we trapped and dumped. Nothing until recently when we noticed droppings behind the stove and in the kitchen. Dog was going crazy sniffing around too. Our traps yielded nothing this time.

Used a local company that didn't charge an arm and a leg and didn't pressure us into any sort of contract. Came out today and set bait boxes outside and inside. Recommended we get some garage guards as it seems they might have chewed through a corner of our garage door weather stripping. Also recommended sealing up a few gaps in some other areas that I missed somehow. Will give it a few weeks and see how this goes.

My folks have a Bosch that is so quiet it has the red light that shines on the floor to tell you its running.

As for Lifeproof, I put another layer of underlayment down because it was going in the basement bathroom and wanted the extra insulation.

I've got a 16' x 14' deck. Likely about 30 years old (and it's showing). My wife and I chatted about putting a sunroom in it's place, but that's likely 3-4 years down the road and I think it would be worth putting the sunroom at a different location than where our deck is. So that leads me to a plan where I'd like to replace the deck... so question for those that may have done this before:

It's all wood. I'd like to replace it with composite. Assuming the underlying framing is good (it likely isn't, so I'll have to replace some of it). Is it as easy as ripping out old boards and just replacing them with composite decking?

Yes, it is.

Nice... was worried it'd be a much more involved process. Was considering changing the layout as to where the stairs go a bit and get rid of some railing, but beyond that a simple old out, new in would be awesome.

Yeah, it's pretty easy all things considered. You do want to make sure your framing is up to code as the composite boards aren't as rigid and if you have unusual spacing between joists, it could look wavy, but that's likely not going to be an issue.

Yeah, I read about that. If need be I'll just throw additional joists in.

Is composite still more expensive compared to wood or is it like everything else and it's just all expensive now?

I just put a composite deck in - one warning about heat - make sure you're comfortable with the idea of melting your feet off if it's in direct sunlight. **** gets REAL hot, REAL fast.

I'm a fan of walking around barefoot everywhere as much as I can. That's almost a no-go until like 6PM during the summer. Ease of use though and cleaning is unmatched. Just pressure wash it down and it's good to go.

Hmmm... what color is yours? Certainly something to think about as our Deck is in direct sun from about 8 AM until 6PM or so through the summer.
