I don't want to jinx it, but there were very few in there this morning. Plus, and this is gross, but that bathroom smells better.

But if you're not on septic, that won't work for you.

I switched to a heat pump/oil furnace back up system 3 years ago. Cost me something like $6,800 but they were able to use existing duct work.

Our ac unit is on it's last legs. It's been limping along the last three years with us needing to add freon a few times. When it goes, I'm thinking of replacing it with a heat pump. We have a natural gas furnace and the duct work in place, so I'm hoping the price difference would pay for itself with efficiency savings over the years.

Forced air is the devil to me. I never had any allergies (nasal polyps) or eczema, until I moved into my new home, which has central air with a heat pump and oil as a backup. I wish I would’ve went with ductless.

Funny aside. Second vendor was looking at my furnace today. He said that it's a 'home made' unit from a company that used to operate out of Greensburg. He said it's basically a burn barrel encased in a metal housing with a blower attached to it. Supposedly the up-pipe temp reaches about 800F when a normal, regulated furnace is closer to 450F or less. It's not underwritten by UL or anything, just some **** a guy cobbled together in the '60s.

It does, actually. The point of the upgrade is to add the A/C capability more than anything. The switch that runs the blower is fussy but that's a Honeywell switch I can get for like $10 anywhere.

The only issue with ductless is that you’ll need a number of them if you intend to use them for your whole house, unless you have a smaller rancher with a full attic, or something similar.

First quote is in. $29,300 for the new system, oil. Seems high.
Same vendor but with a heat pump, $21,700.

I wasn't prepared for this. I thought we'd be in the $12-18k range.
Hohman plumbing put mine in.

Your prices seem extremely high.

Lashinsky HVAC is another option. I went to HS with his sister.

I agree that you should be like 8 to 10k assuming you have duct work.

Agree. I lived in a place that had a ductless system in two rooms (bedroom and main living area). It was nice, but it didn't help the rest of the house stay cool. I get the point behind them if you really want to control specific rooms, but I central air was on my list of must haves when we bought this house.

Still waiting for my driveway guy to come back and reseal the driveway, after the first one failed (oil based spray). He was supposed to come out today, but never showed up. I just want to get this over with so that I can move on, and want this protected before winter.

Bought a shed in June and still don’t have it. I know there’s a shortage on lumber and all, but I want it to be in ASAP so I can paint it before the leaves are all over it

My parents had a new roof installed last week, and they're now in the middle of having new siding put up. So far, the crew:
  • found old termite damage and had to replace minor structure
  • found old water damage and had to replace a decent amount of plywood
  • has driven more than two nails through the wall (and will be repairing the interior)
  • has again driven a nail through something - the main Comcast coax line coming from the pole to the house, so my parents are effectively offline now
I want to laugh, but this also means that my mom may have to go in to work more while the cable is out.

After 6 months of approvals, variances, and now supply shortage. Our deck is finally nearing completion by Monday at the latest.

Ordered a fire table, hope to get to use it even for a weeks time coming up here. Super excited.

Took 6 months start to finish. Our composite deck was completed today. Just in time for hopefully the last bit of nice weather.

After spending the prior weekend running electricity outside and installing 3 outlets at the front of the house...got the Halloween decorations up this past weekend. I managed to not fall off the roof hanging that ghost (I've already had to fix him once after the wind blew him back up on the roof). The floating reapers were the big add this year, the eyes light up, and they move and talk etc.

I think I need to add one more red spotlight to the other side of the yard, but not bad for the first year at the new house. Spoilering cause the pics are pretty big.

The zombie babies were all my wife's idea haha. We've collected them over the last few years. I think there is only one that we don't have. The two babies sewn together was the new one this year.

Those are great! I still haven't had time to get any of my decorations set up.
