Probably has no impact for those of us in the Pittsburgh region. But the way FEMA maps flood risk is criminally outdated, if you live anywhere near a coast, you might want to look at this as opposed to whatever flood determination was used when you bought your home.

The problem is mostly places like Florida and anywhere that is vulnerable to any sort of sea level rise. FEMA is not able to account for the sea level rise when they rate flood risk.

I get a 2/10, which I think fails to take into account the steepness of my street. I'm not all that far from the nearest stream, but I have to be something like 50 feet above its level. A food sufficient to reach my house would need to be biblical. My house would probably be more vulnerable to a landslide than a flood.

I'm being serious when I say this,, but I'm in the market for a stud finder... Any Recs?

I use the Ryobi whole stud finder. It works really well for being like $30. It helps find the center and lets you know if there are wires in the wall. The only drawback is it takes two hands to operate.

I have an old school Zircon stud finder, which does the job, but there are far more advanced ones these days for under $30. I'd hesitate to say that one is truly better than the other if we're talking big brand stuff.

They pretty much all work just fine. Close your eyes and point.

Found more mold in the detergent box of my LG front load washer. I've already replaced the box once, because it's impossible to clean due to the design. I think I'm going to take this opportunity to finally upgrade the washer and dryer to newer, larger units. I wanted to go the top loader route, but everything I read says that they're really no better. I prefer front loaders, but don't think it'll be possible to find a model that doesn't have some sort of mold issue.

I’m about 2 summers or so away from needing to replace my deck. I’m putting in a wood fire oven, 100%. I know it’s Dow the road, but I’m stoked about it. Have 2 years to really do the research and figure out exactly what I want.

My pink & green bathroom is really showing its age. The tub faucet is now leaking nonstop and one of the fixtures is stripped. And of course, the genius who built the house did not include an access panel to get in behind everything. This is well beyond my skillset, so I have a plumber working on it now. He's going to have to cut out the wall to access everything, replace the fixtures, then add an access panel. Fun day.

I noticed mold in the detergent tray and box this past weekend, and started researching a new washer and dryer. LG finally redesigned their system in the latest, most expensive model, and I was about to bite the bullet on the pair before I read the reviews. Nearly every single person complained about how awful the vibration is, even on a concrete floor. Those with second floor laundry like us said they would never recommend it. That's disappointing, because I'm tired of this issue.

Bought and replaced the detergent box, cleaned and bleached the tray, and just bought some wool fabric balls to see if they work well enough that we can stop using liquid Downy, which is the main cause of all of these issues.

So our Deck is nearly complete, and deck furniture seems just as expensive as the deck, lmao.

I had the hardest time finding any decent outdoor furniture this summer. Damn quarantine.

I will next week, waiting on straight boards to finish the deck. Trex was backed-up by a month plus because of Covid.

My 13 year old house is already showing some wear and tear on the counters in the kitchen. They are contractor grade wood with a laminate top that vaguely looks like marble/quartz. What's the next step up - quartz or marble? Or doesn't it matter? We're not in any rush to do it, but the kitchen will need a remodel at some point.

My old HVAC unit leaked from the attic about three years ago and ruined the laminate floor in the kitchen (along with the ceiling where it soaked through, and where one of the contractors leg fell through). We had one of those fire and water companies come out and dry the subflooring out after tearing out the old warped laminate. Then three hurricanes happened, so we had no ceiling and subflooring only in our kitchen for months. Then the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, they came out and tiled the kitchen. It was a real rush job. The issue is much of the grout started to crack just months after they laid it, and now we have shifting tile all over the place. It's awful and it pisses me off. Do we regrout the existing tile? Is that even possible? Or just start over from scratch?

I would love to roll a kitchen remodel - new counters, floors, appliances - in with a screened in porch extension off the kitchen. But we'll never get our money out of it should we need to move...and believe me, I want to move the **** out of this town. But it would be really cool to have a big screened in porch to use for the time being... Decisions, decisions.

i am looking for a piece of granite that is 58"x27" with a 10.5" radius hole cut 13.5" on center from the edge to top the grill table i am building. theres a place near my house - asian granite and cabinet - and it looks like they are in the 250-400 range in price. this seems consistent with vendors of the similar ilk. i have gone to some of the 'design studios' that may have a wider selection but i am in the 850-1050 range. curious if anyone has recommendation for high selection and price competitive
