Your kid(s) will love whatever it is you build for them. One of my fondest memories is from when I was maybe 5 or 6 watching my dad build a swingset in our backyard, following his progress each day and getting more and more excited for it to be finished.

Holy hell.

I am to the point where I'm about to load up the boxes that came, take them to the walmart down the street. Drop 'em off, demand a full refund and just build something myself.
Do that and call Shaf’s neighbors.

So, further follow up: I'm stuck. Kidcraft will not send the box unless I have a receipt showing how much walmart refunded me. walmart didn't refund me, so they can't give me a receipt. I just canceled the whole order. They said they'd send me shipping labels and directions for how to get the boxes shipped back. Oh, no thank you. I've opened all the boxes. They're torn up. I'm dropping this off at the nearest walmart and they can deal with it. Give me the paperwork for that. (they did, btw).

The frustrating part is that I called just to voice my displeasure with the whole thing. I explained that I didn't understand why I had to be the go between for walmart and the manufacturer. The rep said "Well, that was just one option. If you wanted walmart to handle the entire thing, we could have done so, but you chose not to do that..." I f*cking what when?!?!? I explained that option was never given to me. I was told "here's what you need to do", so I did that. If the person originally on the phone said "Well, either you can contact the manufacturer or you could have us do that..." I'd have said "You do that" 100 times out of 100.

I explained to the lady that I fully understand that they just go from a playbook when dealing with customers, but that seems very confusing as to why the playbook has any customer at all be the go between for manufacturer and walmart. That makes zero sense. I asked that I get some sort of acknowledgement that my complaint was received and reviewed by someone. She said I'd get an e-mail in the next couple hours with that. In the meantime I ordered a different set on Amazon.

Just go to the local playground.

Covid can’t be as bad as dealing with this.

Selfishly, I'd love to have it in my backyard so it can help with parenting... "go play"

After a year without lawn service and watching my grass get taken over by vines, weeds, crabgrass etc., finally went ahead and signed up with TruGreen, the official lawn care company of the PGA Tour.

We use TruGreen. I can’t complain, but we have a little bit of a challenging yard. Some places look way better than others.

My entire yard is dead, and I have to replant grass that handles heavy sun. Started dying off in the last two years, and don't know why, only thing I can figure is that we've hard particularly dry summers.

Our TruGreen rep would bill us for visits he didn't actually make, and then blame it on being a new house with an address he couldn't Google map.

Also, deck finally started going up. 24x20, can't wait to drink a beer and grill on this bad boy.

Are you building this yourself? Some of my favorite posts on r/DYI are deck builds getting **** on.

The backyard in our new house is a mess. I'm going to attack it next year and hopefully get it at least somewhat respectable. It's hard with the dogs and them making yellow spots everywhere and trying to dig up holes. The front yard isn't too bad, but needs a bit of TLC.

My cousin has great danes, and gave up on his new yard after less than a year. It's a losing battle.

EFF No. I have no time, tolerance, or patience to do something like that. It's a 24x20 composite deck with a door to my sunroom being added. Too much can go wrong.

Sorry to hear about the playset issues. I just hate dealing anything with Walmart, especially with returns. Going in the store puts me in a mood, just gives me an awful feeling. The grumpy employees don't help either. Target is way better.

I bought a Kidcraft playhouse a few months ago from Target online. It was delivered to our house and there were pieces broken. I contacted Kidcraft and they said I could return everything to Target or fill out a warranty claim form. There was no way I was hauling everything to Target and it didn't look like the store had it in stock anyway. I filled out a warranty claim form with pictures and all and a few days later Kidcraft approved it. They shipped a whole new playhouse and the second arrived without anything broken.

Not that I was ever planning on buying anything from them, but these stories would make me never purchase from them again in the future. That's just awful customer service.

Those are great. "Here's my awesome new deck!" Everyone else: "Nothing about that is built correctly, it's not up to code, and it will eventually collapse."

Also on the subject of decks:

They are going to show up at 3am, but they are going to reverse into your driveway so fast, that by the time they stop, it'll only be 2:59.

That means anytime on Thursday. It's the same trick I use in Screen Time for iOS when my kids lose their phones for the day.
