The thing is, I’ve got no real way of hosing off the guards on 90% of my gutters, nor do I care to do so. The guards are essentially 6+ years of annual cleaning. I’m going to try and find reviews from people who have had at least 3-4 years on the guards to see how they fared.

People who have decks, is composite decking worth the higher price?

I was talking to our contractor the other day about it. He thought they were still way overpriced. Unlike virtually any other product out there, composite decking has not come down in cost nearly at all. Obviously there is less maintenance, but long-term they are very prone to wear and tear and fading.

It's really nice but yeah I can't believe the cost. It's like a couple bucks a board foot, no ?

I'd still pay up for Trex, personally. I think they have a crazy long warranty on their products, and the convenience factor over the years has to add up quickly compared to what's required for a wood deck.

Materials cost we're looking at about a $5,000 difference for TimberTech over pressure treated wood.

This may not be an issue in Western PA, but that stuff gets unwalkable barefoot in 90+ degree heat. It gets much hotter than concrete and regular lumber.

Very roughly we're looking at $10K for wood vs. $15K for composite for a 500 square foot deck. The composite is TimberTech PRO, so it would have a 30 year fade, stain, and limited structural warranty.

that's a tough sell but almost feels worth it.

Also, decks are expensive A F.

Yes, this would be a concern of mine if it were in direct sunlight.

Yes, but is it worth walking on the surface of the sun if it means that you won't have to stain and seal it?

Staining and sealing in western PA is also a pita. Try finding consecutive days of no rain to get that job done.

I’m not sure how often I’d be walking barefoot on a deck, either. They don’t exactly stay pristine for very long.

The countertop guys are coming out to create the template next Monday, which is great. The not so great part is being without a countertop for 7-10 days while the new one is cut.

a place in Cherry Hill did my counters a couple months ago. they did not have to remove my existing counters until the day they installed the new one. it's possible to do a template without ruining your kitchen.

Eh, not a huge deal in the end for me. I get why they want to remove the countertops first, and I can simply use a folding table in the meantime. This place has nothing but positive reviews, so I'm not worried. Went about 25% over what I initially intended to spend, but we did end up going with quartz over granite.

Granite is fairly nice as a kitchen countertop, but I would be practical to choose quartz over it. If you think about quartz vs granite for a second time.
