Special ordered new living room furniture for late August delivery, so the living room renovation is now well underway. Got all the old wallpaper and loose ceiling paint and plaster scraped off and all the cracks opened up and cleaned out.

First coat of Durabond on one wall and corner done:

Just say no to crack.

I have another wall and a half and the ceiling left to Durabond - and then a couple coats of EasySand before I'm ready to paint.

Going to go with another period correct color - Ruskin Room Green.

Should come out looking something like this:

Any recommendations for an anti-slip deck stain?

I'm 99.9% thrilled with my Honeywell RTH9580WF, and would still get it over the Nest 10 out of 10 times. While I did look at the Ecobee because of the remote sensors, I didn't like what I read about the actual thermostat, so I never made the switch.
I love the ecobee so far, we're 3 months in. I do want to see how it does through the winter. It's saved me at least $60 per month. We had a housewarming party a while back and I had turned off the scheduler/occupancy sensing. Forgot to turn it back on, and our electric bill was like $90 higher. I attributed it to the fact that it was keeping the house at 72 all day long, as opposed to Ecobee turning it up to 83 when we're at work.

I am sure all of them use the same type of basic algorithms though so it's ultimately personal preference, system integration, and a good price that led me to the ecobee.

The devices that require you to walk past them won't work for me. My thermostat is in our dining room, which we rarely use. I just create a schedule based on our work schedule and leave it at that. If I leave work early or something, I manually override the setting from an app on my iPhone and call it a day.

I had trouble once and I read that if the opener and the motor are too close together, they won’t pair. So I backed the car out of the garage and it paired right up.

Is it an older garage door opener? I had this exact same issue with an old Craftsman (~20 yrs old). I tried every trick in the book, including online suggestions. Ended up buying a belt driven opener.

Got stung by a yellow jacket today...first time I've been stung since at least before my daughter was born. Was pulling weeds on the side of the garage and they have a nest at the base of the garage, you can see the hole where they fly in. Has anyone else tried the boiling water/soap approach?

Or you could just flood their hole with an entire can of wasp killer like I did. Problem solved.

Is here a "learn" button on your opener motor? I had to press it for my wife's.

Also I had to de program it from the prior owner but you said new, so not sure if brand new.

Anyone know of a webapp or something that I can use to make diagrams of a bathroom I'm remodeling? I know I can just do it by hand but if there was a program where I could plugin the dimensions of the room and the main fixtures to see how they'd 'look' in terms of spacing that would be cool. My Dad needs a diagram showing where I want switches and outlets but if I there is something I could use to map everything out that'd be helpful.

I've used Sweet Home 3D before. It can be a bit difficult to work with, so I end up using AutoCAD most of the time. But it's nice to be able to change the colors of paints and it has an extensive database of different furniture, appliances, etc. you can use.

There's a Stanley app I used. It's pretty slick. I want to say it was 2 or 3 bucks. Worth it

Got the ceiling cracks all cut out and reinforced with screws and plaster washers. Applied some Plaster-Weld to exposed lath, the washers and any painted areas that will be getting some fill. Laid down the first coat of Durabond.

Plan is to get a coat of Durabond on the wall cracks some night this week, and tape everything next weekend. Have some FibaFuse on order.

You're living in an actual nightmare of mine, WK. Plaster/tape is arguably the worst thing ever.

Tough work but, IMO, much better than dropping the whole ceiling. At least all the ceilings here are a little wavy, so I don't have to be perfectly flat with my work - as long as it flows it looks good.
