His is probably an atmospheric vent unit. Mine's a 50g power vent. The unit was $2k installed, but I paid $400 for the warranty.

lol, and it looks like I get to use my warranty on day 2. The god damn gas valve isn't setting the temperature correctly, and is likely bad. On the "HOT" setting, which is 120°, the water is actually 140°.

I'm compiling a list of contractors in Westmoreland County if anyone has recommendations. It's for the 25x35ft addition mentioned earlier. Looking to start construction in the spring but I figure we have to get scheduled now for that to happen.

Who doesn't suck? In terms of good, fast, cost we're more focused on good and cost as the house is empty and we're in no hurry to move.

I still hate suggesting this, but I've actually found Angies List to be helpful. I've hired a number of contractors found on their site, and have been very happy with all of them.

Brian DeWitt construction built my house and I'd suggest them to anyone.

Never thought about taking them out ever. Why would you?

I dunno. My old man always took ours out. Most of what he did rarely made sense, hence my questioning. Thus being my first winter with a home of my own.

I take mine out. Brightens up the rooms by a fair amount.

I might take mine out, if only to give the windows and screens a good cleaning in the spring.

I've wondered about this too. Are the screens really made to withstand the snow/ice/cold?

We never took ours out growing up, and they lasted just fine. They kept the snow and ice off the actual windows, too.

I can always remember helping my grandpa take down their window screens this time of year because they wouldn't be opening them anymore to keep the house cool. No A/C in that house.

So last saturday I had a landscaper guy come out to go over some potential jobs at the house. We have some brush that needs to be cleared out. Yesterday I get a letter from the city saying that my property was in violation and essentially to do exactly what I got a quote on. I feel like this landscaper guy filed a complaint to get the city to come out, send me the violation and then basically force me to hire him to do something that I was waffling on when to do it. Either that or I have some POS neighbor that filed a complaint. Either way, this world is full of people that can go **** themselves.

That would be one hell of a coincidence. I'd certainly be getting more quotes, if I were you.

The BS thing is that this notice says that they are coming back out on 10/24/2018 to reinspect.

So they only give you two weeks to correct it? That's absurd.

Well, what needs to be done to be in compliance? You could always just do the bare minimum that the city requires then hire a landscaper of your choice to pretty it up.

What is the violation? Is it covering a gas meter or power access point? My guess is the contractor you brought out to do the quote also works for the city

So rent a chainsaw at Home Depot and clear the brush.
