trex does get warm in the sun - just keep some crocs nearby

the ease of trex is amazing. i wash mine once a year and it looks tight. the thought of never having to stain and powerwash a lumber deck is exciting. plus the color choices are nice

We decided to go with composite. Our contractor was going to understandably charge more to construct a wooden railing versus the ease of a vinyl railing system, so the price difference became like $3,500.

I spent far too much time watching those crazy pool shows on DIY network yesterday, and if I didn't have a massive propane tank in my yard, I'd probably have skipped over the patio and spent big bucks on a really nice pool.

Pool Hunters and Best. Pool. Ever. are two new shows on HGTV.

You’ve been warned.

Staining and sealing in western PA is also a pita. Try finding consecutive days of no rain to get that job done.
yep, I power washed mine in April, still waiting to stain. fun times.

Well, today's rain let me know that I better take care of waterproofing my garage sooner rather than later. It's leaking in through the brick mortar. Is it cool to use DryLock on bricks (not foundation block).

My dad recommended scraping the mortar joints and applying flex seal that comes in a bucket. That sounds off to me...

What is it with dad's and flex seal. Mine tried fixing a leaky pipe with it.

You doing it on the inside? Should be fine.

 Dads love flex seal. Yeah, inside. It won’t look pretty though. I’d rather use something that doesn’t cover the brick if possible.

Almost finished rehabbing a hand me down swing set for my little dude. Stained it Friday and again today. Barn red with a ponderosa green roof

Does anyone have experience with "sail shades"? Look like a more semi permanent shade option to canopy/gazebos. I have my eye on a design that incorporates three triangle sails to cover my patio.

We just had our downstairs 1/2 bath remodel completed this week. It's a great feeling--it's exactly what we wanted and I think the colors we picked worked out really well, especially since it's a windowless room. This is the first project we've had done on the house. I'll post some pics shortly.

So I want to frame in a wall in our basement to section off a piece of the room for storage (to block the cat and dogs from accessing). About a 16 foot long wall with a desire to put double doors in it. This is a pretty straightforward project right?

For those who have propane tanks for their house - is it more expensive in the winter months to get it filled?

I have one that we use for our range and auxiliary heating (fire place) and it's about 1/3 full. Didn't know if I should fill up now, or wait til it's completely empty, which is trending to be around December/January...

I have been tracking my propane consumption and gas prices since buying my house, and there is no pattern with regards to season and pricing. I'm under contract, but it's one where they come out on their own schedule and refill the tank. I obviously have more refills in the colder months, but if I average out the entire year, it's roughly every 85 days. It's nice not having heating bills from July through October.

10% chance of rain, so I figured it would be good to get an early start on resuming the front porch staining. I had to pull of a downspout to fill in some splits in the wood and stain over it, so naturally it begins to rain while the downspout is laying in the yard. Only rained for about 15 minutes, but I can't take the downspout back off because I can still here it drip draining.

I regretfully forgot to take a picture of the "before", but trust me that it was ugly. I couldn't be happier and it's exactly what we wanted for our downstairs 1/2 bath.
