We have two fans in the house, both of which are on switches but also have remotes.

The remotes work for either fan....... So when we go to bed at night, we turn on the fan in the living room. Is there a way to switch the frequencies or something

The receivers should have channels you can change

This. Usually either a 4-channel dip-switch toggle, or a programmable learning button, under the battery compartment cover on the remote.

Didn't think to look under the battery compartment. I looked literally everywhere else. Thanks, will check when I get home.

Anyone ever put a smaller halfcourt basketball court in their backyard? Pavers? Concrete?

I don't have a lot of room, I thought maybe pavers could double as a patio area and be a little nicer (and cheaper)?

My “court” growing up was a dirt patch that my dad leveled out for us. If you missed your shot, you’d have to run down a hill to chase down the ball before it rolled into the woods.

That might be the most “Ohio” sentence I’ve ever written.

That's good to know, if we go that route, would have to definitely talk to the banker about that possibility.

Yeah, if that were a provision it would be stated in writing. I asked a friend that does mortgage underwriting about it, he said "HELOCS have mostly the same rules as fixed loans. There can only be certain things that would cause them to call it due. It should all be laid out in the mortgage."

There should be a switch under the battery in the remote(s) as mentioned and then on the fan mount itself, under a cover, is a corresponding switch.

Today I had a rep from Renewals by Anderson come out and give me an estimate on replacing 6 double hung windows. They're all approx 27.5x33. The quote with discounts was north of $8,500. Is that ridiculous? That seems ridiculous to me.

Yes that is ridiculous. I just had 15 windows replaced by World of Windows for around the same price. And several of mine had to be specially made.

The estimates from those guys that go door to door seem insane to me too. We have a door on the side of our garage that leads to the back yard. Admittedly the door is in shitty shape, but it's functional for the most part. When we first moved in I was weak and agreed to have someone come out for a quote...he quoted us at like $5,000 or something absurd. We had a newborn at the time, and the guy that came out for the quote was borderline refusing to leave. He just kept repeating "just a few bucks a day" with the payment plan, which probably would have drove the cost to $7,000 with interest. I finally told him that we just had a baby, my wife was trying to put her down, and kindly get the **** out of our house.

I have zero tolerance with that stuff now, and generally try to avoid at all costs.
