Or just test, seeing as how it takes all of 2 seconds to do and sealer isn’t permanent.

If you drop a bit of water on it, does it bead or pool? Bead is sealed. Pool is unsealed
:thumb:
Well, this is subway tile in the shower, so I assume sealed right?
Not necessarily. It's an extra step that may or may not have been done. Only way to know is to test it or ask the installer.
When we had our bathroom tiled, the tile guys did not seal it. We did it on our own afterwards. I think the grout will start staining due to hard water, mildew, shampoo residue, etc., if it's not sealed. Ours is still a bit stained anyhow in the areas that consistently get the most water.

I'm having a hard time picturing what two cubic yards of dirt looks like. Would it fill a pickup bed enough to cover the wheel arches?
If you're still interested:

I have to warn you though, there's plenty of rock in the dirt. It's left over from a retaining wall I replaced so quite a bit of river rock in there.

Are you around this weekend? I might be able to fit this in, not sure though. My weekend is pretty well stacked with stuff to do but I have a truck and help this weekend. If we finish our other task early we might be able to stop by. I just honestly don't know if we will. I do know we have to run to Lowes so we're going right by you anyway.

LED recessed lighting in the kitchen. What say yee?

The GC put a couple of those cans in yesterday. They seem very wrong, but I can't tell if I just need to get used to it.

I'm interested in knowing people's response as well. I need to get rid of our old florescent tube lights and have been thinking about recessed LEDs.

Are you more put off by the recessed can or the amount of white light the LED gives off?

the whiteness is jarring #libtardthings

...but yeah - the rest of my house has old school bulbs, so it stands out in a not awesome way.

What color temp are the bulbs? I haven't tried these, but Phillips makes a 'warm glow' 2200-2700K bulb that might not be quite so white.

To add, most GCs don't put enough cans in and that can make the lighting in a room wonky.

I think you can buy LED bulbs in soft white.

I want todo LED recessed cans in our new kitchen. Luckily, I have a lighting budget and get to source the materials myself. So I can hopefully shop deals and also end up with enough to go around

Anyone know of a place, preferably on the north side of the city, that you can take a rug to for cleaning? It's not big, about 3'x5' or so. Only place I've found so far is way over by Robinson.

I bought the rug in Afghanistan and lugged it home. First day we put it out the dog pissed on it. I can count the number of times she's pissed in the house over 10 years on one hand, so it was quite distressing. That was in 2011, it's been rolled up in the garage ever since.

They're awful and I regret doing them in my family room. We dont use them because of how jarring they are, and the "soft" LEDs didnt do much to help. Its like being under the lights in an operating room

If youre digging, sure. You don't have to call one call at all if you don't want. But you'll have pissed off neighbors if you hit something.

I'm making outdoor steps out of 6x6s, and I'm worried about the wood getting slippery. Any suggestions for decent-looking non-slip options? I don't want to put down stick-on grip strips. I'm considering making a couple of horizontal channels on the treads with my table saw. I know that there's also additives to paint to increase grip. Not sure what I want to do yet.

What they don't show you on property brothers is the horror show that happens to your house during renovation. We had all the flooring on our first floor replaced this week. I'll never feel clean again. I'm confident I've inhaled about 6 liters of subfloor soot and ceramic tile dust this weekend. And the guys did it all without wearing masks. They won't make it past 50.

Ha yea, we had our downstairs walls removed to open it up a bit more - dust for months.

Sprinkle some sand on it when you finish (paint?).

I just started looking through reviews of painters, wanting somebody to finish off our house (2 bedrooms, two large hallways, stairway, large kitchen, dining room) and am now wondering if I should just do half of the work myself, seeing the prices others have paid for this much work. The thought of how much time it'll take to just prep for paint makes me cringe.

Prep sucks. I learned how to cut in to avoid tapping. It looks...ok. Not as good as tapping, but no one but me notice it.

Prep sucks and painting isn't fun, but unless you have incredibly high ceilings (or you're a perfectionist) I don't think it's worth paying a professional. I usually just tape off the baseboards so the prep isn't too bad.
