The cheap plastic spigot on the hot water heater has a hairline crack and a stream of mist is shooting out. Can I replace it with a metal spigot?

When I was in 9th grade science class, I had to make a map of my neighborhood. I eagerly drew and labeled the "crick" which ran behind my house. I had no idea that wasn't an actual word.

Busy day at casa de Mac. Mounted my mailbox post in the ground. Installed our ecobee 4. And connected the new dryer. Let me tell you, if you're planning in side venting a dryer, just dont

What did you do that made it so frustrating? Most dryers already have a cutout for it, and rigid venting isn’t difficult to work with. It’s a tight fit inside the actual dryer, but didn’t you just custom build this house? Why the hell would you design it so that you had to screw with something meant for people who had no choice in where their dryer was located?

We did custom build but I didn't have the foresight to say where the dryer vent went... I was more concerned about larger items. Not to mention there wasn't really another option unless it got vented into a wall or the garage. It's just extremely tedious. Yes, it's two pieces, one screw, and a knockout panel. It's 10x harder than it sounds, for sure. What did you do that made it so frustrating? Most dryers already have a cutout for it, and rigid venting isn’t difficult to work with. If we ever get to build a house, the w/d hookups are going right next to the master bedroom, if not inside the master closet.

I very much prefer it this way [like our current house], as well.If we ever get to build a house, the w/d hookups are going right next to the master bedroom, if not inside the master closet.

This is nice. My buddy bought a house last year with that setup. W/d right next to the master, inside a closet in the hallway. If we ever get to build a house, the w/d hookups are going right next to the master bedroom, if not inside the master closet.

In our first house, the mud room/entry from the detached garage had the w/d hookups, and it was just across the hall from the master bedroom. That was pretty nice. In the other two houses we've had, the hookups were/are in the frickin' garage. All the more a hassle now, since the master is by itself on the second floor. No. No no. Noooooo.

I've noticed that with nearly all of the CA homes I've been in and have seen on home improvement/renovation shows on TV. I really don't like it at all.In our first house, the mud room/entry from the detached garage had the w/d hookups, and it was just across the hall from the master bedroom. That was pretty nice. It never gets truly cold here, so you can put that stuff in an un-heated area without it being really awful. It helps maximize the utility of the interior space, but it does so at the expense of convenience. I'd say about 80%+ of the homes we've looked at over the years had the w/d in the garage.

Yeah, it's just inconvenient. I do like the idea of being able to relocate the water heater to the garage or outside, however.

Our W/D hookup at our previous house in Mississippi was in the carport in a room unnattached to the main house.

Yep, that's how it is down here in South FL too. Brand new places had an inside laundry facility. Our house, built in 1991, and all those around that age, had the w/d in the garage. It never gets truly cold here, so you can put that stuff in an un-heated area without it being really awful. That's dumb.

That's not a bad idea. Wish I'd have thought of that. Back when we were first designing our house, we had a walk in closet which was ~5x12. We stole 5' off it to make a half bath. I could've put the half bath where the laundry is now, and the laundry in the closet. Oh well - it's still only about 10 steps from the master bedroom (we are a ranch). This is nice. Basically how ours is - we have a mud room with a separate laundry room. My laundry room also serves as my media storage and has my surveillance system, router, modem, and ethernet switch.

Just found out we have carpenter bees in our back porch. Debating whether to nuke them with all the nasty chemicals and surely get rid of them, or try to be safe with a 2 and 4 year old (who is absolutely terrified of bees btw) and most likely have them come back.
