I do, however, order from Sam's a lot. Sam's/walmart is our largest account.

None of the baseboards in the place were caulked you the wall. I’m assuming that should be done, yes?

Normally they would be, yes. Is there a noticeable gap between the baseboard and the wall?

The guy at Sherwin Williams asked if I had the gallon of paint with me and I said yes and went to hand it to him and he says “do you just want to keep it? We can’t use it.” Looks like I’m going to be painting that bathroom we hadn’t planned on painting.

In places. Yeah. I took all the baseboards out of the living room. There’s no caulking at all.

I think it’s basically for appearance. In a new build, I think they generally caulk because it hides any imperfections and is then easily painted over. When I put flooring in my old place and did quarter round between floor and baseboard, I only caulked where there were noticeable gaps.

With dogs and a kid, I’m thinking it might be better to just do it everywhere.

Seems last night my water pump tripped a GFCI. I've been doing some reading and it appears there are mixed feelings about actually having a pump on a GFCI circuit. I ran an extension cord to another circuit, non gfci, all good. So now I'm debating on giving the pump a dedicated, non protected circuit.

Well pump? This is absolutely the best route, and I agree that it should not be run on a GFCI circuit.

We learned the hard way a few years ago that your freezer should never be plugged into an GFCI outlet. :face:

It is a city main booster (Grundfos Scala 2). My pressure at the entrance is like 38psi. Stupid low (I live on the only hill higher than the water tanks, and I am 700 linear feet of pipe off the main up a hill)

Yeah, our freezer is on the GFCI too. I guess only one, GFCI circuit in our basement. So it looks like two new dedicated circuits are in my future in the basement!

Luckily my 200 amp sub panel is in the basement and has about 3/4 vacancy in it. This is why I threw in a 400 amp service when we built.

Duuuuuuuuude. Did the two smaller bedrooms last night. Holy hell. Just a small line of caulk make them look so much better. It’s incredible the difference.

On room has a small corner between the door and the closet where the baseboards aren’t even attached. They’re just slid in there. No nails, nothing. :face:

Welcome to home ownership. You're going to spend the rest of your days in the house cursing the imbeciles that lived in the house before you. And the people that move in after you will do the same.

I did the same thing in one of the closets with the quarter round because I ran out and was fed up with doing it. Finished it up a couple years later when i started renting it out though.

I would like to know why the PO installed a ceiling light, a circular fluorescent bulb fixture, but did not run a switch to it.

Some minor annoyances for me are the new style of not putting a light fixture in the center of the family room (only a wall switch), and not putting bathroom fans in the upstairs bathrooms because they have windows.

Biggest regret of building, not putting enough lights in the main area.

Sometimes you literally just don't think of something obvious later down the road.

My neighbor's al electrician and has offered to help me run romex from the switch area to my family room, but the thought of dealing with drywall again is enough to just deal with what I've got.

The cornerstone of my home improvement model is - Can I do this without having to do drywall?

If yes, continue

If no, re-evaluate plan
