Commitment breakdown by position:

QB - 1
RB - 1
TE - 1

DT - 1
DB - 2
LB - 2
DE - 4

Have to imagine they're done looking for defensive linemen at this point. Time to focus on the offensive side of the ball.

Kyi Wright from Farrell. Got him over Wisconsin. Everything I've heard about him is the kid is a beast but was out all last season with an injury so flew a little under the radar

Pitt Baseball parting ways with coach of 21 years Joe Jordano. 536-464-2 record.

My dad's sent some players there so I'll see what his thoughts are. Being a northern team in the ACC isn't the easiest but they didn't improve a heck of a lot either

This may turn out to be one of the better under-the-radar picks of this class. He's been on Pitt's radar for quite some time and he was an absolute beast as a sophomore. Had he not missed most of last year with an injury, he very well may have worked his way to a solid four-star ranking.

Wisconsin was really after him and it sounds like UNC was as well, so eff them.

I'll be interested to see what they do with him. Wright seems to be a Dorin Dickerson type player - he plays both sides of the ball for Farrell and it sounds like he lines up just about everywhere on defense. Peak said in a write-up on PL that Pitt coaches were initially recruiting him as a LB or DE, but told him in the spring that they'd love to move him to TE, so I guess we'll see. The kid is 6'3", 235-240 lbs now, so he could easily add some weight to move to DE or TE.

He's certainly one of the better "local" kids (District 10, not WPIAL, but Farrell is close enough) this year. If they can land Devonshire and Hubbard, that would be a nice recruiting haul in terms of higher-end local talent. This seems to be a relative down year for the WPIAL/Western PA, even by recent standards.

I'm hoping Hubbard from Sharpsville will also end up at Pitt. Haven't had many big time football recruits from here in the Valley for a while so would be nice to see them both sign with Pitt

The PA top 30 (as ranked by rivals) looks really weak in general. I think there is only 6 or 7 4 star guys in the state.

They are up to the 26th ranked class and are amongst the top 2 or 3 choices for 4 or 5 4-star guys right now. Pretty nice position to be in coming off a 5-7 year. I still think this year is likely to be "disappointing" from a pure wins perspective as the OOC is brutal, but I think 2019 is the year we should expect 9 or 10 wins in the regular season. Will be an upperclassmen heavy group and Kenneth Shane Pickett will be entering year 2 at the helm.

imo as long as Kenneth shane pickett meets/exceeds expectations (which are pretty high expectations at this point), this team's record really isn't relevant.

Darnell Harding picked Duke over Pitt. He was between us two and Stanford if they were to offer.

Also, another commit

The new commit per Dokish:
New Pitt commit, Jason Collier, is a 6’7” 270 pound New Jersey TE that could move to OT. According to 247, his other offers were Virginia, Maryland, WVU, VT, Duke, Syracuse, Rutgers, and Temple.

I'm expecting the same. I think the team will be much better than their record ultimately may reflect.

I think the four toughest games on the schedule are UPS, ND, VT and Miami. They get UPS and VT at home. At ND will be tough but Pitt has usually managed to play them well. They proved last year that they can handle Miami; my hope for that game is that 1) Pitt should be better this year than last year and 2) the game is at the end of year, so hopefully this team will have evolved into a more polished product.

If they can somehow split those four games, I'd be thrilled...even moreso if the wins are against VT and Miami because those are the most important to the conference.

Other thoughts on the schedule...

I love getting the first three at home. I hate that two of them are UPS and GT back-to-back, though I think they match up better with each team this year. I hate the GT matchup in general because I hate that offense.

Following up the GT game with trips to UNC and UCF will be tough, but we can get a good look at both of them on Sept 15 when UCF plays at UNC. That UNC game is a game Pitt has to win this year. I'll be interested to see what happens with UCF. Really good team, but they lost some high-impact talent on defense. Heupel will probably have them throwing the ball all over the field but again, Pitt may be better equipped to handle that kind of offense this year.

Syracuse is getting better but that game being at Heinz should help. There are few college football sites I hate worse than the Costco With FieldTurf that they call the Carrier Dome.

After they come back from ND, they get an extra week off before hosting Duke and that's perfect timing. It allows them to heal up for a game they should win, and to get ready for a stretch will have them play three of last next four on the road.

At UVA will be tough because Charlottesville is a tough place to play AND that's a Friday night game. Mendenhall is a good coach, but they still seem to be a work in progress, so we'll see.

I'm glad they have Wake in the ACC cross-over game as opposed to Louisville, FCU or Clemson. It's a road game so it won't be easy, but that still feels to me like a game they should win.

Pitt hired FSU pitching coach/associate head coach as the new baseball coach.
Since 2005, Bell has helped lead three teams to four College World Series appearances – Tennessee (2005), Oklahoma (2010) and Florida State (2012 & 2017). He has coached eight All-Americans, helped build 12 Top 25 recruiting classes and coached 47 MLB Draft choices, including 25 at Florida State. In 2012, he was named the Perfect Game Assistant Coach of the Year and the No. 13 recruiter in the nation by D1Baseball.com prior to the 2017 season.
Everyone says it's a good hire and that Pitt was interviewing big name guys that shows a renewed commitment to the program, so good job team.

GOAT Pat Bostick is re-joining Hillgrove in the booth this season as color commentator.

Connelly's preview. We all knew this, but they were so bad the first half of the season and pretty damn good in the second half:
Category First 7 games Last 5 games

Record 2 W, 5 L ---- 3 W, 2 L

Avg. score --- Opp 31, Pitt 23 ------ Pitt 25, Opp 20

Avg. yards per play Opp 6.7, Pitt 5.1 ------- Pitt 5.8, Opp 4.9

Avg. percentile performance 36% (38% off, 37% def) ----- 67% (44% off, 72% def)

Avg. performance vs. S&P+ proj. --- -6.9 PPG ------ +13.4 PPG

They went from playing like a bottom-40 team to a top-40 team. The offense was still sporadic, but the defense turned good. The win over Miami was a nice signpost of the improvement, but even if they’d fallen short in that game, the Panthers were already far ahead of where they’d been a couple of months prior.

Another waste of talent...these guys honestly can't help themselves. How does that leave Pitt at TE? I know they lost some seniors last year I thought.

not good.. they had a very good TE transfer in last year but he is currently taking time off due to some personal issues so not sure if he will be back. They had a few okay recruits, but they're young and inexperienced. Reeves was supposed to be the guy this year
