Gragg didn’t even play in the ACCCG. They’ve gone all in on treating the TE like an extra tackle.

I'm not 100% sure of this and I don't care to go back and watch the broadcast to confirm it, but there was a point either during the game when they showed the backs & receivers sitting on the bench. Gragg was sitting there and just had this look on his face like he would have rather been anywhere else.

Maybe it was the camera catching his expression at the right moment, but I can't imagine he's happy with the way he was used this year. Either he stinks out loud (Gragg had more than 30 P5 offers, so I doubt that's entirely the case), Pickett stinks out loud and couldn't get him the ball, or he was never given a shot to contribute consistently because the OC's scheme entirely ignores a position that has never been more involved in the passing game than it is right now.

I have this horrible feeling that Narduzzi is going to stick with Watson in the interests of continuity and this is going to get worse next season.

Fun fact: Gragg was rated as the 7th best TE in the country in his recruiting class; the top TE was our ole buddy Chris Clark. Given his career path I'd say it's a safe bet that he's not as good as the rankings once predicted, but he still put up a nice 12.2 YPR average in Arkansas last year, where it looks like he was the 4th TE on the depth chart yet had the same number of receptions as this season. Regardless of how good he actually is, I'm sure this isn't how he planned on spending his final two seasons of eligibility.

He pretty clearly was recruited over and wasn't going anywhere on the depth chart. Mack and Ffrench will be starting next year, with Mathews, Shocky, and V'Lique Carter behind them in some capacity or another. I think Michael Smith and Dontavious Butler-Jenkins also got more snaps compared to Street this year.

Smith did get some playing time but didn't record a reception

Take a look at some of these YPC stats:

I can comfortably conclude that both Mack and Ffrench are good, so next year appears to be a helluva lot better situated in terms of the WR position compared to how I felt going into this year. The O-line's ability to move from F minus in pass blocking to even a C- should see both Mack and Ffrench put up double what they did this year. Right? RIGHT????????????

I comfortable agree with your assessment re: Mack and Ffrench. Somehow taysir mack is leading the team in receptions yet he had only 21 receptions this year compared to 23 in his freshman year. That is not to suggest that mack is bad. But it is yet another example of how bad this passing game has been.

He led in receiving yards, but was third in receptions behind Ffrench and Lopes. Mack also missed 2 games IIRC or he would have been the leader in both receptions and yards.

Astute observation for a Friday afternoon Mr. Brown.

He also lead the team in the important "hey this guy can A. can open and B. even when he is not open can catch the ball in traffic" stat

Pitt basketball and football, combined, against their most hated rivals these past 2 seasons: about to be 0-5! 0-5! With a couple blowouts!

Doesn’t that suck? Too bad the Lions don’t play you clowns in hoops this year.

Not a bad showing, this teams a work in progress but getting there. Definitely some really good talent. Just lacking some size and depth. And I don't have any doubts Capel will bring in more talent there.

Florida safety Khadry Jackson has decommitted and is apparently headed to UNC. Narduzzi is now losing recruits to the ghost of Mack Brown.

He flipped a guy from UPS last week and got a top 4-star WR over a host of SEC schools, too. Ole' Mack still has some tricks up his sleeve.

Rest In Peace, Bill Fralic.

Passed away far too young at 56. Word is that he had cancer. I heard from a few other fans around us at the Albany game that he was sick but didn't realize it was that bad.

I met him once at a FanFest circa 2000 or 2001. Hell of a nice guy.

I don't really remember his days at Pitt. His Pitt career wrapped up with the 1984 season, which was just before I really started following college football. I definitely remember him with the Falcons. I'm not sure there was an offensive lineman that better defined the mid-late 1980s and very early 1990s of pro football.
