i appreciate the optimism

but honestly out of those all of these upper classmen, who is any good?

imo if you are good enough to be a difference maker, you are getting substantial playing time as an underclassmen

Pitt finished 106th in passing yards allowed per game and 105th in yards per attempt. How does that happen when Maddox and whitehead were drafted and Jackson was really good?

Maddox is short, Whitehead is terrible in coverage, and I'm not convinced Jackson is good.

Also don't think the defensive line got enough pressure on QBs in meaningful games.

That doesn’t bode well when you have to face arguably one of the best returning QB’s in the second game of the year.

I do think you guys will have an improved defense, but lots of question marks on offense.

Think Pitt will win 6 games.

In all honesty, what has McSorley done against Pitt the past two years that they should be worrying about?

165 yards last year, in Happy Valley. 13 turnovers the year before. Bring it

He’s a senior leader who has beaten way better teams, in way more high stakes situations. What has your QB done beyond that flukey win last year catching a sharp downward trending Miami team off guard?

Also, he remembers 2016, and wants revenge at Heinz Field. I know Gesicki and Barkley still haunt you from 33-14 and are gone, but, Trace, Juwan Johnson and Miles Sanders will thrash your D.

The key thing here is that PSU will dominate on the lines.

High stakes situations like the games UPS played in the past two years right? Oh yeah, that's right, Ups just missed out on the CFP the past two years bc they wet the bed against inferior teams.

Gettin’ this hate, however, I am predicting Pitt will exceed their Vegas over/under on wins.

You're funny.

BEATEN way better teams in higher stakes situations? I think you're right, but that margin is a lot closer than you're going to want to admit. Let's check.

2016
McSorley was 2-2 as a starter against teams that were ranked when UPS played them.
L @ #4 Michigan (Michigan finished 9th and went 10-3)
W vs #2 Ohio State (Ohio State made the playoff, lost to eventual national champ Clemson, finished 6th at 11-2)
W vs. #6 Wisconsin in the conference title game (Wisky finished 9th at 11-3)
L vs. #9 USC in the Rose Bowl (USC finished 3rd at 10-3)

2017
Again, 2-2 against teams that were ranked when UPS played them.
W vs #19 Michigan (Michigan finished unranked at 8-5)
L @ #6 Ohio State (Ohio State finished 5th at 12-2, lost in first round of the playoffs to Bama)
L @ #24 Michigan State (MSU finished 15th at 10-3)
W vs. #11 Washington (Wash finishing 16th at 10-3)

As for Pickett, he's had one career start and in it, he beat the 2nd-ranked team in the country, a team that still finished ranked 13th at season's end. Aw shucks? I guess?

But, but, but "sharp downward trending" something something, right?. OK yes, Miami struggled to beat Virginia the week before they played Pitt, but their UVA win followed two straight wins over ranked teams - first against then-#13 VT (VT finished 24th at 9-4) and then a 41-8 smoking of #3 ND (who finished 11th at 10-3). After Miami lost to Pitt, they then had to play top-ranked Clemson in the ACC title game and then wound up with #6 Wisconsin in a bowl game. Miami was overrated and the bottom fell out against Clemson, but insinuating that they were a team sharply trending downward isn't really accurate. They still finished in the top 15.

But like you said, McSorley has BEATEN better teams in bigger situations. Yes, I do suppose that's the case. In almost more than two full seasons worth of starts, I'd argue that a whopping two of McSorley's wins - the signature win over Ohio State in 2016 and then the win in the 2016 Big Ten title game over Wisconsin - were more impressive than Pickett's win over Miami last year.

Oh, I know. Much of that was driven by me growing increasingly sick and tired of hearing about shad's new best friend Trace McSorley.

I don’t know who “shad” is.

I do know Trace McSorley will have a huge game September 8th, and if you don’t think so, then, well. I don’t know what to say to you.
