Finally flipped it on. Saw they are only down by two scores, and driving. Then...INT. k

That safety knew he was picking it off for 2 minutes. Pickett stared at him from the snap.

It pains me to pay compliments to Pitt but I'm actually surprised... This is closer than I expected to their credit.

He's okay. Shawn Watson told us all summer how great he was which led me to believe he was going to be special. Normal coachspeak is to downplay everything and set low expectations. Really puzzling seeing how things are turning out. If he would have just shut up and said he's a freshman, working hard etc etc the optics would be better.

KSP looks pretty much like The Nuc did last year, leading to the easy assumption that Nard Dog, Watson, etc suck.

There is tangible qualities that indicate that Kenneth Shane Pickett is better than DeNucci. For example, Pickett has a good arm, or perhaps not a good arm, but on the pitt scale of arm strength, it is not as good as savage (best arm in the post majors II era imo) but better than tino, denucci, max power, etc. lets at least say his arm is as good as Palko and j peterman. He moves in the pocket better than denucci, and his scrambling is more productive than denucci. This offsense just sucks

I dont get the opportunity to watch a lot of college fb outside of pitt (which is a tragedy), but i watched several of the noon games yesterday. Everyone runs an offense that exploits the weakness of the defense. Everyone’s offense gets receivers in favorable matchups. Everyone’s offense gets guys open. It doesn’t matter if you have an experienced guy (like the cuse or the hoopies) or an inexperienced youngster. Yet pitt cant figure out a way to get guys open.

I wound up watching very little of the game but I assume it was the standard game plan: low margin for error plodding drives predicated on the idea that time of possession is what determines who wins the game instead of points. All passing plays are rollouts and 90% of the routes are horizontal and within 5 yards of the LOS. Sound about right? Didn't even seem like they opened things up from what little I saw when the game got out of control.

Quite honestly, it was one of the most cowardly-executed and coached offensive game plans I've ever seen.

Pitt was down 14-0 when RAL returned the punt for a touchdown at the end of the first quarter, so the game certainly wasn't out of hand. And I understood the idea of trying to go ball-control early on, like I kind of outlined in posts earlier in the week. Unfortunately, too many runs on first down went nowhere, which resulted in too many long 2nd downs. UCF was keyed on stopping the run and they were quick enough to contain the short-to-medium stuff before Pitt's receivers could do much with it. I honestly don't remember any attempts to stretch the middle of field other than Pickett's INT, which was a bad read borne of inexperience and a good play by their safety.

Apparently, though, that seemed to be enough for Watson because what was most bizarre to me was the second half approach. Pitt never really adjusted. It was almost like they found themselves down at the half, threw up their hands and tried to get out of there as quickly as they could. There was no attempt to adjust the offense to take shots downfield...quite the opposite, almost like they were afraid of turning the ball over again and giving UCF more chances to score.

To echo Kenny's point, it's just completely disheartening to watch. You watch these other games and you see teams throwing it all over the field, running misdirection, RPO, whatever. It feels like Pitt is stuck in the mid-1990s. Other teams at Pitt's level are figuring it out because they have offensive coaches that apparently know how to use their personnel or have the willingness to adapt their systems to fit it.

I don't know what if any changes will be made at the head coaching level, but I've seen enough of Watson and he can take Sherman with him as well. Watson is Cavanaugh 2.0 with a jet sweep or a reverse thrown in once in a while. And one of my fellow Pitt fans made the point that it's tough to name a Pitt receiver that's has improved independent of Canada's offense in 2016. I know some of it can be attributed to Peterman's departure/struggles by Browne & Dinucci, but none of these receivers seem capable of getting open consistently.

I'm just tired of it. Watson & Narduzzi did Pickett a horrible disservice during camp - Watson with the Bridgewater comparisons and Narduzzi running his yap to the media about Pickett's supposed run during camp where he didn't throw a pick. If they didn't trust him to let him run the complete offense and still made those kinds of comments, they're dumber than I thought they were.

Thanks for the write-up Stoosh. I happily didn't watch a down, but it's nice to know that things went as I expected. Looking at the box score I see a lot of tackles for Stocker, Campbell, and Reynolds, so I can assume they were actually used.

My meaningless thoughts because I didn't watch the game.

- When your offensive gameplan is centered around not losing the game despite being completely overmatched, that's as cowardly as a coach can get.
- I don't think ANY Pitt player has shown season to season improvement in the Narduzzi era except for the one season with Canada.
- Not throwing a pick against this defense isn't much of an accomplishment, but Narduzzi just can't stop from running his damn mouth, even when it **** over the kids he's supposed to be coaching.

If there was a hidden viggorish, it was that some new faces played a lot in the second half

Changes to the #Pitt depth chart for Syracuse:

Elias Reynolds is No. 2 at MLB. Had been an OR with Chase Pine. Pine is now listed as No. 3.

Freshman QB Nick Patti has been removed as the No. 3 QB. Jeff George, Jr. slides up a spot. Patti did not travel to UCF.

So the guy who they moved to DE for the scrimmage against Albany because they just ABSOLUTE NEED TO GET THIS GUY ON THE FIELD, is now never going to see the field. I know that beating out Hendrix and Folston seems like an improbable feat, but I would have just left Pine at DE and ya know, actually played him a bit.
