This seems to be a common occurrence. Bucs playing really good baseball, finally get to the top of the heap in their division, and proceed to utterly sht the bed against a terrible team.

Imo (and lets face it, mo is rather important in this thread) this isn’t a game where you should point at the pirates and go LOOK SEE HERE THEY GO BLOWING IT AGAIN. Richard pitched a monster of a game. I think he threw 14 balls and like 66 pitches in the first 7 innings. It was an awesome performance becuase his sht is honestly pretty weak but god damn he was putting the ball in awesome spots and getting some crappy contact. One of the reasons why i love having season tickets is that regardless if the pirates win (and honestly i dont care if they win), you can see some really impressive stuff on a night by night basis. In this case, it was Clayton Richard of all people putting together a gem of a start. I cant understate how good of a start that was. The padres definitely deserved to win that game.

Harrison back, Kingham back down, best starting pitcher going today. Let’s get a damn series split.

Jordan Lyles pitched a no-no into the seventh last time out.

He's the one who almost killed Ryan Vogelsong a few years ago.

Taillon is bad.

Good write-up from Bucs Dugout about how the Pirates continue to sabotage their rotation by forcing them to throw batting practice: https://www.bucsdugout.com/2018/5/22/17 ... ball-study

Pirates lose four straight to terrible teams. I guess this is called "regression"

They've been streaky all year.

Marte was also a really important piece, losing him at the #3 spot in the order is painful.

They've been streaky and have responded to each slide with winning like 5 out of 6 so curious to see how they respond. Taillon needs to figure it out

Also - hot take but Meadows has been better than Marte, so losing Marte contributed < 0 to this slide

So it is or it isn't? The 'softball schedule' quip was dismissed because they beat some not-basement teams earlier in the year. Now they're losing games that winners would win, but that's okay because they started 11-4? Are we back to that?

Disagree. Meadows has been good in the 7 spot, but they #3 spot in the lineup has been bad, Cervelli and Dickerson are coming back to earth, so that's contributing a lot to it.

How does losing to bad teams support the softball schedule argument?

They are a streaky team because the starting pitching has been bad. The offense is above average, but if the pitching is like this, then that's how the season will go.

huh? there's 162 games I'm not going to plan a parade after every win and jump off a bridge after every loss. I've enjoyed watching them win more games than they've lost. If the route they took to get to 26-21 isn't good enough for dodint, then whatever

You're right; it's fandom. It doesn't need to be logic based. I just feel saying 'winners win, losers lose' [is incredibly arrogant in this context and] goes both ways. Losers lose 3 of 4 against the basement Padres; it's your mantra, own it.

the quote was directed at one white sox game where the Sox (who were like 9-25) blew a game in outrageous fashion and made what seemed to be 15 errors. They were losers then, and they're still losers. If you want to quote that each time the Pirates lose and insinuate that I think the Pirates should win each game against a bad team then have at it
