If you look at the stats you posted he had plenty of runs (no pun intended) where he pitched multiple innings with no ER's.
He's pitched 3, 4, and 5 innings so far for TB. Pump the brakes a bit is all I'm saying.

We've seen Cole come back to ground after his torrid start when the same things were said, bet same will be the case with Glasnow.

He is to the Pirates because of that contract. They needed a a guy to pair with Taillon at the top of the rotation, and evidenced by this move, they were not going to consider using the FA market to do that.hot take: archer is good but good enough to give away a HS pitcher in his second pro year, a potential starting OF and a...whatever glasnow is?hot take - Baz isn't that great

Jeff Passan and Mark Feinsand are reporting the same. I always expected Baz to be the PTBNL. Really don't give two shits about trading a 19 year old pitcher who is at least 4 years away from making it to MLB. Just draft another one next year.
And that's ignoring that his numbers to date aren't great.

potential potential potential. we've heard that word for years.. what makes ktk think the Pirates organization would develop these fellas to be better than Archer?hot take: archer is good but good enough to give away a HS pitcher in his second pro year, a potential starting OF and a...whatever glasnow is?hot take - Baz isn't that great

this team spent the prime of Andrew mccutchen's career not trading for guys because of hefty asking prices. then they trade a heft asking price for a guy with 1.6 WAR over the past two seasons.
look im not opposed to trading assets. but why trade those asset now? why is this time different? They have been pursing archer for years. they sniffed around Quintana and a bunch of other dudes.

I don't feel like this is an apples to apples comparison.this team spent the prime of Andrew mccutchen's career not trading for guys because of hefty asking prices. then they trade a heft asking price for a guy with 1.6 WAR over the past two seasons.

Back in the WC glory days, the team was always operating with a patchwork rotation. This would be like Cole and Locke surrounded by veterans on short contracts (Volquez, Liriano, Burnett, Morton, etc). This current squad has Taillon, Musgrove and Williams seeming to have cemented their rotation spot for years to come. 2016 and 2017 it was kind of unimaginable to trade Glasnow or Taillon because there was a rotation spot open to them as soon as they proved ready (we know how that story went). Meadows was the heir apparent to McCutchen in the OF and Bell was penciled in to 1B as soon as he was ready. Keller wasn't a stud prospect until late in 2016, so he wasn't really an option for trade bait.
Here was their top prospects in 2015.

So basically they had the guys 5 and up available (minus Newman and Hayes who were just drafted). Hanson, Kingham and Ramirez wasn't going to get you much of anything.

But yes, overall, the Rays win this trade. I think for the Pirates, losing a prospect trade is less of a big deal than it was in prior years.

Probably because they realized that they overvalued prospects and should have done it then too. Better to admit a mistake and move on than to keep making it.this team spent the prime of Andrew mccutchen's career not trading for guys because of hefty asking prices. then they trade a heft asking price for a guy with 1.6 WAR over the past two seasons.

Trade was made now for a TV deal negotiation. They're gonna get fleeced on the deal again anyways.

Nesbitt interviewed Glasnow. Kid put 99% of the onus on himself and basically said he pitched like ass here. This though continues to be damning when it comes to the franchise’s approach to pitchers:
I also find it amusing that the Pirates have bullshit information about the need for extra rest after pitching in Denver yet according to Cole, Glasnow, and Musgrove at the very least the Astros and Rays have more useful analytics for things like actually **** pitching.
NOT EVERY **** PITCHER IS THE SAME YOU dadholesLooking at spin rates and how the flight of my ball — there’s a lot of analytics and stuff here that I can look at — it’s just way, way more effective up in the zone. I think being so tall and getting so far down the mound, it’s really hard for me to live down in the zone. Early in my minor league career that was all I tried to do — downhill and down; go in and low in the zone. It was really tough to do.
I had a conversation with [Rays pitching coach Kyle] Snyder. He asked, “What do you want to do?” I said, “From the numbers I’ve seen, I need to be up in the zone [with fastballs] and then down in the zone with curveballs.” I mixed that physical part in with the way I would approach hitters, and it felt a lot better.

I’m surprised Taillon couldn’t hold that two run lead or go more than six innings being so well rested. (I’m never going to get over that decision and I will die on this hill)

I laughed. They gave up a game against the Rockies so they can be well rested to lay down against the Twins.I’m surprised Taillon couldn’t hold that two run lead or go more than six innings being so well rested. (I’m never going to get over that decision and I will die on this hill)

I think to be fair, they held on to prospects so long for 2002-now that I would prefer them trade assets away to acquire major league talent.Ahh there it is. Damned if you do, damned if you don't
They have 4 years to find another Baz, that's OK with me.
