Anyone see the Clint drinks the koolaide interview? Talking about good players before and after and these guys are here now.

Quite reminiscent of when they dumped Jason Bay, and Brian Giles for the matter. Everything just leaves such a sour taste anymore.

I caught a clip of it and laughed. I guess it's partially his job to sell this year's team (no Bob, I don't mean literally) to the masses so they put asses in seats, but to act like this team is gonna be better without Cutch, Cole, and zero true activity in the FA market... I hope that Koolaid is good.

DK had a quote from a "pirates vet" about how the team is going to shock the world. Saying they wanted to stick it to ownership for "giving up on them." I can't give enough verbal handie motions.

Freese went on a rant about the clubhouse culture from last year. I wouldn't be surprises if that accountability stuff was about McCutchen, dude seemed to want to blame anyone for his performance dip.

“This is a different organization, where if you get drafted, you look at a guy like Jameson Taillon: It sucks that if you pan out, you have your future written for you in an organization like this. You either fold and sign a team friendly deal, or you’re bounced." Freese

It would be preferable to be bounced.

He isn't wrong, but I'm not going to blame the pirates for not signing guys to unsustainable contracts that hurt the team in the long haul. The rest of the league is starting to subscribe to this theory. That is why Eric Hosmer and JD Martinez and neal walker are sitting unemployed. That why Edwin encarnacion got a good, but not gr8 contract even though he hits 35+ home runs each year. teams are tired of paying guys for past performance. the pirates won't pay for two reasons: a. they are cheap and b. it doesn't help the team win.

As for the players, yeah it does suck that taillon, cole, pedro, etc. all knew that they wont play their entire career with Pittsburgh. But it is up to the union to renegotiate rookie contracts so these guys can get paid fair market value while they are still in their prime

Yeah, pretty sure this applies to every team with young star players playing under initial team control. If they choose to go year to year, they are trade chips when the organization isn't competitive. (I don't recall any outrage when the Cubs traded Jeff Samarzjia before he was a free agent, or the Astros trading Hunter Pence.

My only question here that would be telling for the Pirates. If contracts are getting "cheaper" and they're still not buying, then nothing changes anyways.
