When asked if the #Pirates will go after a big bat in the offseason, president Frank Coonelly pointed to the Oakland A's who won 98 games with the lowest payroll in the majors.
I love when they do this, because its the most hilarious self-own in sports.

FC: See that organization with even fewer resources than us playing in a crumbling stadium in a city besieged by poverty and violence with no money or corporate base that has been extraordinarily successful despite all of that for 15 years plus? That proves we are on the right track!

Any non-brain dead person: Well, uh, how come you can't replicate even a tenth of their success despite significant structural advantages compared to the A's? Doesn't this just mean their Front Office/Scouting/Executives are the differentiator? Aren't you the problem then?

I give credit to Connelly for his persistence. That jagoff has been spouting nonsense for a decade and hasn’t changed his tune one bit despite a million things working against him.
