The new wrinkle there is that Frazier has come back a different player and could potentially play his way into the mix for the 2B job.

frazier's line drive rate is 43% since he has been recalled from the minors. he is hitting 463. prior to the demotion, his rate was 14.8%

for perspective, votto leads the league for the season with a line drive rate of 32.7.

conclusion: the man is raking.

Frazier is what he is, he can be a solid contact hitter when he is on. That's best case. Worst case, he's useless because he has 0 power. He's Alex Presley 2.0 and thinking of him as ever being a replacement for a starter is a bad idea

Joe Block just tweeted out the NL standings from July 8. Pirates have the best record at 20-8 and a run differential of 143-95, which is both the most runs scored and the fewest runs allowed. NL is bolded because the Red Sox are so much better than everyone, so I'm sure they're probably better in all these categories.

Sustainability is obviously in question, and if I were to look for the key factors, I would look at how Dickerson continues performing in the leadoff spot in the order. I think there is an obvious trickle down effect from his success in the leadoff position in the order. I think Williams is another important piece to that, if he is to continue being reliable, that has downstream effects and to me gives them three reliable SPs right now with Taillon and Musgrove, and can easily move to four if Archer gets acclimated.

Nothing against Clay Holmes, but are any other teams in playoff contention randomly pitching a minor leaguer to “give the rotation a rest”??? Seems like an even dumber thing to do with as well as the rotation has been pitching lately.

It’s over thinking and reeks of “look how smart I am” nonsense that infects managers of this era.

Meanwhile they used Saddler for a single inning last night in a blowout game, so I guess they don’t really have a long relief guy tonight either. Or at least not one who is rested.

Honest question. Is this solely Clint's call, or could Neal tell him to no, he's not making a call up?

Also worth noting that pushing the rotation back with the Holmes start means that neither Taillon not Archer will face the Cubs next week. So hooray for that.

Just woke up and saw the final score and I’m even more pissed now. DFA Hurdle.

I listened to the first inning and it was 2-0 before an out was recorded and I went to sleep.

What a dingo.

That’s how I was. Then I learned that Hurdle let Saddler bat twice with RISP and now I’m even more pissed that before. Dude is a damn idiot.

Who cares if they lost? The starters have gotten an extra day of rest and kela, Santana, and Vazquez didn’t have to pitch? I consider it a win any time athletes in the prime of the career do not have to play in games that have a strong influence on a team’s ability to make the postseason.

It makes me wonder, is there any value in being a 4 ERA pitcher, but being either dominant or letting up 6 runs in 4 innings with no in between? As opposed to going 7 innings and letting up 3 or 4 each time.. or less value?

I think the former guarantees a win every other time out, with a very small chance on the off nights. And the steady eddy latter option give you a coin flip each time. Wonder of there's some advanced stats out there. Probably ends up even in the end.

Tldr Trevor Williams is either Nolan Ryan or John Van Benschoten
