Bregman and betts are mvp caliber guys, the plug a lot of holes. See mccutchen-pirates.

The baffling part of all this is dodint trying to come in the thread to talk baseball again.

I’m really pulling for Freddy’s prediction of a 161 game season to come true.

Hard to give an overall grade, but it would be around a b, b minus. The pitching staff gets an A, and the offense a C. The outfield held and produced like an outfield should. And they have the dreaded problem of no-bat, no-glove infielders.

I think I'd go B to B-. Just a weird year. Before the season I would have said over 500 would be an A, because we all thought they'd suck big time.

B-

if you look at the first page of this thread, only noted self loathing yinzer and pirate apologist troy loney and the beleaguered slappybrown predicted 81 wins or better. so if they finish 500, I cant see how that wouldn't be a positive.

81+ wins is a successful season.
75 is the low end of "meh, okay, fine."
74 and below, "bad, losers, sell the team, etc etc"

You basically need 75 to 80 wins to shut me up at the end of the year and allow the Pirates a losing record. ;)
Hey, nice. You guys are so close. Good luck!

I lean b over c on on the grade because I think the current pitching staff gives them a pretty high floor.

If Craig were to somehow take a step forward next year, and Bell doesn’t improve the bat or glove, they need to consider moving on from him. A meh bat, no glove 1B is bad. I believe that Hayes and Kramer will be assets with the bat and glove long term, so it still really looks like they need to sign a short stop this offseason and that be the only offseason target. It needs to be at least a part time player that could handle an everyday role were Newman to suck. They will also need a David freese type to share time at first should Bell stay at this level.

Next year the pitching is set, problems being in 2020 though as lots of guys start getting expensive.

Well the Dbacks had a huge one in the 10th that effed me out of running the table on the Thursday games for my parlay. I'm not salty or anything. Anyway, the wild pitch is the new launch angle. Just wait
