Chance to get back over .500 today with Musgrove pitching.

Some other random bright spots in this little winning streak. Meadows continues to produce in the two hole and Moran has responded well to being moved up in the order. The twitter commenters have pointed out that Kuhl recent string of good pitching has coincided with a change in his pitch selection, if he can own one of those rotation spots, that would be helpful. I think Kingham for Williams is the move to make right now.

Still some questions with the bullpen, hopefully rodriguez is effective when he returns, I think Brault should be used more and same with Glasnow. Feliz should be in mop up duty right now.

This isn't a chicken or the egg thing here.

If you're good, people will show up. If you need to spend money to get good, then you have to do that. Attendance can't be a determining variable here.

This is why they have earned and deserve my derision.
Good to know the terrible attendance weighs on them in a substantial way. Maybe they'll hang themselves with their bath robe belts.

He makes me despise this team. Honestly, these comments are so old and tired. They had a chance to continue to grow good faith and they sh*t all over it in 2016.

GMNH is definitely an assbag. He and Connelly NEVER say the right thing, especially regarding fan attendance in relation to the team's complete unwillingness to spend any damn money.

Decided to take a look at some of the Pirates minor league numbers...

AAA
Bostick - 314/365/480/846 on the season. He's come back to earth a bit, but it's still surprising he hasn't had an MLB appearance this season

Frazier - 120/214/200/414 in 25 AAA at-bats. Dude is kind of a mess right now.

Kang - 182/269/227/497 in 22 AA at-bats. Had a rough first game in AAA, going 0-4 with 3 Ks. He's had only 1 K since then and is 3 for 8 the past two nights. Seems to be coming around at the plate. Has played 4 games at 3B and 2 at SS.

Kramer - 272/333/477/810; 10 HRs, 14 2B, and 2 3Bs; Had a rough stretch in the middle of the season but is hitting 378 over his last 10 games. Showing good power for a middle infielder, striking out at nearly a 30% clip though. Playing more 2B than SS.

Newman - 304/360/375/735; 1 HR, 14 2Bs; K% only at 12, barely walks, has no power, but can definitely collect singles. Playing more SS than 2B.

Moroff - 238/328/448/775; 5 HRs, 2 2Bs, 1 3B; K% close to 28; Playing all over the place, including LF; Seems like Kramer and Newman have surpassed him.

Osuna - 340/390/551/941; 4 HRs, 19 2Bs; K% 17; Not showing a lot of power for a 240 lb. 1B, but dude can hit and isn't striking out a ton; Still think he can be an MLB contributor. Has played 9 games in RF, 5 at 1B, and 23 at 3B.

Mathisen - 315/370/493/864 in 73 AAA ABs; 3 HRs, 10 2Bs, 1 3B; Seemed like an underachieving, nothing prospect for a while there but has really started to hit this season; Was being used at 3B in previous years but has spent most of his time at 1B.

Luplow - 268/351/468/819; 6 HRs, 20 2Bs, 1 3B; Had a really rough start to the season but has turned it around. Batting 342 over his last 10 games, has split time between LF and RF this season, likely is who we thought he was.

It's tough to evaluate pitching based solely numbers. Holmes and Eppler have decent AAA numbers. Waddell has struggled in 5 games since his callup from AA.
AA
Craig - 263/342/493/834; Career high 11 HRs, 15 2Bs. God knows what the hell is happening here. Was his usual mess to start the season but is batting 385 with 5 HRs in his last 10 games. Already has 50 RBI on the season. Showing a lot more power. Better average against lefties but more power against righties. He might actually turn into something useful.

Hayes - 284/349/436/785; 3 HRs, 17 2Bs, 3 3Bs; Hasn't played since 6/12 so thats a concern, but was hitting 395 in his previous 10 games. Low K rate, seems to have a good approach at the plate. Still not a ton of power but is only 21. Hasn't shown the base stealing ability he featured last season. Most outlets consider him the best defensive 3B in all of minor league baseball, so if he can hit for a bit more power the Pirates could really have something with him.

Martin - 326/383/540/923; 9 HRs, 11 2Bs, 5 3Bs. Has spent most of his time at CF. Having a great second season in AA. Already 22, but is looking like he'll have an MLB future.

Reynolds - 219/274/391/662; Only 64 ABs, but these are **** numbers for a 23 year old in AA.

Tucker - 237/300/309/609; 1 HR, 10 2Bs, 2 3Bs. Stolen base numbers way down. So far this season he can't hit for **** and has zero power.

Mitch Keller's numbers look good but not great.
A
Cruz - 303/363/516/879; 8 HRs, 14 2B2, 7 3Bs; K% at 26 but has been cut way down since the start of the season. 341 BA over his last 10. Showing a lot of power for a 19 year old. Has kind of sucked defensively but most SS do at his age, let alone one's that are 6'5".

Mitchell - 316/379/504/883; 7 HRs, 17 2Bs, 3 3Bs; Has been cold over the last 10 with a 250 BA and no HRs, but has shown a lot of natural power. K% similar to Cruz. Seems like he could be useful in the future.

Sanchez - 211/278/308/586; 2 HRs, 10 2Bs, 1 3B; Is coming around slowly after an extremely rough start to the season.

Stafford - 286/345/449/793; 5 HRs, 11 2Bs, 2 3Bs; Showing a lot of power for a catcher.

Cody Bolton has excellent numbers through 4 games. Luis Escobar has been solid.
Seems like there could be some decent players in the Pirates sytem. I look forward to all of them being traded once they become too expensive.

That last list is A, not A+.

Though the A+ squad has nothing in terms of prospects. Adrian valerio is ok, and Escobar is not progressing. Jared Oliva is a 2017 draft pick that is hitting well, and that's about it.

I think Bristol starts this week and the short season WV team got underway a few days ago. I think Swaggerty will join that squad soon.

The big international signing Juan Pie is hitting like crazy in the DSL already, so looks like they made a good call there.

Morgantown's roster looks like a bunch of placeholders until the college draft picks start showing up. Swaggerty is indeed supposed to go there and is listed on their roster. Not sure what the deal with Shane Baz, but I guess he's going to start in the GCL again.

I think Bristol.

What's interesting is that Cody Bolton, another 2017 HS draft pick got moved up to low-A and has been dominating.

But, that is less interesting when you see that even though they were both drafted out of high school the same year, Bolton is a full year older than Baz.

According to what I've read on the interwebz other team's scouts think Cruz's defense is waaaaaay better than it was before.

That seems to be the common belief despite the 23 errors. Even if he doesn't stick at SS, if he continues to hit like this he'll fit in at RF, 3B, or SS.

He was brought up in a recent fangraphs chat.

He's still going to be too big to play SS, not sure why they are playing him there. If anything, having an error machine at SS runs up the pitch count on the pitching prospects.

Is he though? Correa and Seager are 6'4", I'm not sure 2 inches precludes him from ever being ther

Cruz seems like he would at least have some athleticism as well. Michael Morse, who is **** gigantic and moves like a statue, came up as a SS and even played the position in 57 MLB games. Most errors he committed in a minor league season was 20, but I doubt he had the range to get to much. I'd let Cruz play at SS until its absolutely obvious that he can't. A 6'5 SS with power for the position is something special. A 6'5 RF/1B/3B with okay power for the position is Polanco/Bell/Moran.

Really surprised to see mathesien hitting that well. he was a high draft pick (2nd round) at catcher. I think injuries and a lack of playing time due to McGuire and jin de jhang combined with a decent amount of athleticism sent him to 3B.

Looks like it'll be the State College Spikes.

Everytime I hear "NY Penn League" I immediately think it's people in prison playing other people in prison. I guess Penn-->Pen-->Penitentiary.
