Trevor Williams and Jameson Taillon are the first pair of Pirates pitchers to win 13 games in a season in the 21st century. The last duo was Todd Ritchie (15) and Jason Schmidt (13) in 1999.

The Pirates have won more games than they did in 2017.

12 games left

1 royals
3 brew crew
3 red
4 cubbies
1 fish

as long as they avoid wetting the bed against the reds, they should finish above 500

My prediction is looking solid.

On a side note, my god, that Royals team is a Dave Littlefield special. A note on that side note, the Pirates should be doing some serious soul searching after barely being able to muster two runs in 11 innings against that pitching staff. I am unlucky enough to have cable this week and watched the game last night. I never want to see Josh Harrison or Jordy Mercer again.

Just looking at the gamecast last night, only Cervelli had and OPS above .800 with quite a few between .450 and .650. That will net you only 2 runs, no matter who you play.

- Great start for Taillon, who has had a pretty damn good season.
- All the love for Newman (302/350/407/758 in AAA) and Kramer (311/365/492/856 in AAA), yet it ends up being Pablito Reyes (284/337/421/759 in AAA) who turns out to be the savior. Beyond the numbers, he's looked comfortable at the plate in MLB whereas Newman and Kramer have decidedly not. With his position flexibility it wouldn't surprise me if he starts next season on the 25 man roster.
- **** Bell (318/444/545/990 since 9/1) and Moran (316/353/442/795 since 8/1) for being dodints until the season was realistically over.
- Out of all the guys who have come up in recent years, Osuna might be the most disappointing to me. Complete stud in AAA who looks equally lost in MLB. And how the **** does somehow who weighs 240 have so little power?

Newman is at .224, so if I remember correctly.. Reyes and Newman are the only two call-ups all year to have an average over .200.

I like Reyes. I hope he can be good

bell imo has gotten better as the year has gone on. I wrote a long diatribe about how he was below the line and probably the least productive everyday first baseman not named chris davis. his second half ops is 855. if he has enough Abs to qualify in the second half, that would put him at 6 best in the MLB. not shabby.

I dont know if the pirates are doing any soul searching but this gentleman has done some soul searching

Starting pitching isnt cheap but the pirates managed to piece together a pretty damn good rotation. I dont know if Musgrove or Williams are sustainably good pitchers, but the pirates should be ok with keller and other various dudes nearing the major leagues.

At this point, its seems pretty obvious that the 2019team will go as far as the pitching will take them. The starting rotation is set, and the bullpen is basically set (unlike this season, when the opening strategy for the bullpen was an abject failure). Quality bats aren’t cheap, but defense is relatively affordable compared to offense. I’d say that defense probably #2 on the list of reasons why the pirates didn’t make the playoffs (#1 would be disappointing performances bell, polanco, and uneven production from marte). So imo the best idea would be for the pirates to look at upgrading the defense via free agency. I think its a lot more realistic than upgrading the offense, and it would go a long way to helping the pitching staff

Really need to spend money on a SS/3B. Pirates are fine at 2B.

Newman is not a good shortstop, his arm sucks, having him at ss and bell at first would lead to abject disaster. The imperative has to be to get a short stop in the offseason. They can get someone to platoon with Moran at third until Hayes is ready. An all glove no bat shortstop can’t be that expensive.

They’re going to **** re-sign Mercer aren’t they?

Also, if Newman can’t play SS he has little value. His bat can’t really play anywhere elsewhere and if I need to decide between Newman or Kramer at 2B, give me the guy who at least has some pop in his bat.
