Shaun White has an unfortunate face which reduces his ability to be in as many spots as Vonn, but yes, he's the only other athlete I've seen by name and it was a suggested Youtube video.

If it was a ROC promotion and they only featured Lewis Hamilton, yes.

I've been clearing Olympic marketing assets for three weeks, and the only two athletes I can recall being featured are Shaun White and Vaughn, about 50/50 between the two. This is creative that comes directly from NBCU, and we just put our logos and TMs on it.

Honestly, probably around 95% of the assets feature some stock 'generic skier #3' image from a library.

Meanwhile, part of the problem with promoting other athletes is that qualifying for the olympic team can take place as late as one month ago. That's a short time to make somebody a public face and get them familiar with a person's story.

How is promoting Vonn any different than promoting Phelps, Gaby Douglas, or Shaun White? They need arhletes to promote, and Vonn is by far one of the most recognizable athletes at these game.

The model of pinning two weeks of sporting events onto one or two athletes is the wrong approach; to me. NBC is lazy and so is their viewership, a relationship forged over decades of low expectations on either side. As noted earlier in the thread I hope Vonn breaks her leg and NBC has nothing to talk about. It won't hurt viewership because nobody is tuning in to watch just Vonn; they're tuning in to watch whatever event they were going to watch anyway. And they won't get enhanced coverage of that event because NBC is lazy and focused their production on one or two people.

Missed opportunities and unrealized potential bums me out. But NBC is the company known for spoiling tape delay Olympic results by including them in the lead-in to the coverage, so the bar is really, really low.
