To all the Trace haters out there: lol. He’s going to single handily pull off this 20 pt 4th quarter comeback on a bum foot.

And then what happened

I’d say Franklin let him down just as much. Give him a chance to win the game on 4th down.

I can't blame Franklin there. There was plenty of time left and PSU had 3 timeouts. Defense needed to make a stop and they didn't.

Missed 1st half opportunities

Came out flat in the 3rd. Adjusted ok but too late.

Thanks and good luck Trace.

The game literally means nothing. Put the ball in your guys hand and go for it. If you don’t get it you’re in the same spot, defense needing a stop and Kentucky would have been pinned deep.

By kicking the field goal there, you at least only need a field goal to tie it and aren't forced to score a TD.

I would have been fine with them going for it too, but evei If they had converted, the defense probably blows it anyway.

Going for the FG was more stupid than the fake punt to get things started. Franklin sucks.

Yeah. I can go either way on the fourth down call. But Franklin certainly didnt help him either.

Now that I've finally cooled down (both emotionally and physically -- holy hell, it was hot there), here's what I thought of it. First off, my apologies to @slappybrown for failing him in his 'entertainment purposes' endeavors. I have constantly thought that while Franklin is a great recruiter, he is a very average to less-than-average in-game coach, especially when it comes to making crucial decisions. I'm a big fan of deferring to the 2nd half if you win the toss because I believe that you're not likely to come out on the first drive (especially the first one after a month+ off) and punch in a score. Plus, you know that no matter how the 1st half ends, you know you're getting the ball next...and it's a big boost if you happen to have it last in the 1st half and score (Belichick miraculously lucks into this all the time). So taking the ball to start the game was the first bad decision. Then, the idea of the fake punt was just brutal. I don't think Thomas gets that first down even if he hadn't dropped the snap. So that's a gift 3 points to UK. The constant thinking that they can run Sanders laterally like Barkley has been pretty dumb all season but especially so when you play against a team with lateral speed like UK. Run Sanders inside for quick hits and let him use his power there and use Slade and wide receivers who have better speed as the outside threats. They got better about that in the 2nd half. But the biggest dumb decision was not kicking that field goal. In the end, it's a meaningless game, just go for the damn win. Despite how great the defense had played on the previous 3 series, you still can't be guaranteed that you're gonna get it back. If you go for it and miss, UK starts at the 14. You're all the way down that far and they had been gouging UK nicely, get one last play there. I just don't understand how you can be down by a touchdown and be in the red zone with that little time left and think, 'oh, we'll be fine, I've got 3 timeouts and the defense will get it back.'. Guess what, James...they couldn't get it back.

Easy to flush this win because the game was pretty meaningless. Trace showed the true warrior that he is by not only willing himself back into the game but nearly strapping the team on his back for an awesome comeback. In the end, though, I'm afraid that might be the last meaningful football he plays because plays like the pass that got picked at the goal line where he had JJ wide open and the knockdowns at the line are just not going to cut it at the next level. But in terms of a college QB, he's just what this team needed and he'll never have to buy a drink in State College again. Credit Kentucky for buckling down on the offensive line on their last possession and Bennie Snell is a hell of a running back. He'll look good for some NFL team next season.

Speaking of Saquon and Snell... did anyone find it odd that a dude who never played against Barkley or a Barkley team got up from celebrating his record breaking TD run and decided to mock the Saquon celebration? It didn’t make any sense to me.

Imo this is probably the correct take. James from state college made a reasonable choice to take the points. He had 3 timeouts and the defense was rolling just as much as the offense was rolling. Plus there were 4 minutes left in the game.

But ultimately this is a bowl game so you might as well let it all hang out and have some fun with it. losing a bowl game isnt a good thing and winning one is probably good....but either way it really doesn’t matter. No one is losing a job over a bowl game loss, so you might as well go for it.

Tell that to Mark Richt.

Anyway this very unbiased observer watching the game thought kicking it was an okay choice. That choice however doesn't jive with his earlier fake punt so he may have been second guessing himself. The D let up I think 11 yards the entire fourth quarter until that point so it was reasonable to think they wouldn't let up 4 first downs or whatever it was. Plus I don't know if UPS fans wanted to really see James from Franklin's next fourth down play anyway.

What is the "saquon celebration"

He would sprint and wave both his arms in a goofy manner. According to Saquon however, it is not a celebration at all:

It's just him being goofy; however, he did it on more than one occasion and others joined in with celebrating TDs, so I'd classify it as such.

First time I remember him doing that waving arms thing was this Georgia State catch and run last season. Pretty sure Baker Mayfield did it a few times last year too.

I think he’d be better off staying another year, but I wish nothing but good things for him. Slade, it’s your time, man.

This is my take also. PSU needed Saquon more than he needed another year of college. I’m not sure sanders is that much better than the underclassmen RB’s or that he’s ready for the NFL. But best wishes, seems like a good kid.
