Baseball: 1-5 (stopped because I got stuck as the required local on a travelling team)
Soccer: 1-4 (stopped because it became a year round thing when I moved to KC)
Football: 5-8 (Stopped because I sucked)
Basketball: 1-8 (Stopped because I sucked, and missed the 8th grade team tryouts due to pneumonia)
Track & XC: 8-12 (Never made the State Champs unfortunately, was a 2-time winner of what was basically the MVP)

@columbia I don't think that was it. It was downtown somewhere, relatively close to Pitt. I would say the Mellon Park Tennis Center, but I remember hitting balls off the metal roof - that's an inflatable roof.

Oh, Mt. Lebanon's tennis courts! My second most favorite place in Mt. Lebanon (after Saloon * )Mt. Lebanon?
tennis - 3rd grade - middle school. I remember playing in a nice indoor tennis center in Pittsburgh briefly. No idea where it was.
Not because of the food or drinks were that special. I just liked watching my buddy - otherwise a very serious, upstanding citizen - who after building a very cool, lucrative career for himself would go there just to see all the waitresses who treated him badly in high school...

Soccer - grades 2-6
Baseball - grades 3-4
Basketball - grades 4-9
Football - grades 7-12
Track - grades 7-12
I quit basketball after my freshman year then grew about a foot that off-season. Probably not the best choice in retrospect.

literally the same thing happened to me. I was 5' on the dot freshman year. By the beginning of Junior year I was 5'11".. I wasn't bad, just short, and well, white.

I don't think we can compare. I have a handicap (CP), and the most they would let us run was "12 minutes"Whatcha run? Curious how far off I wasTrack: high-school (long-distance running Champion of Czechoslovakia at the tender age of 17 )
(I think my "Championship performance" was 2,965 meters - but that involved me "soakin' my fame" during the last 30 or so seconds. I beat the second guy by like 70 meters, and the No 3 by at least 200m. One of the reasons why I did not continue running competitively much after that. During college - the best shape of my life - I'd run 8K @36 minutes, because my running buddy was on the Czechoslovak National fencing team... and later he went to direct this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=up-JrjqsCP0 No. 1 box office movie that year... )

By the way, that's damned impressive. A 3000 in 12:00 is really solid.

Long time ago, in one of CMU gyms, I saw two Asian dudes playing the most competitive game of badminton possible . The level of athleticism, speed, etc. was unbelievable. After that, I will never joke about the mighty sport of badminton.
Plus, it's a dangerous sport. My Taiwanese colleague's brother is (was) quite an accomplished badminton player. He recently (nearly?) lost his eye when hit there with that feather-y sucker (or whatever technical name it has).

Thanks! Unfortunately, that was (a) 30+ years (b) two arthroscopic knee surgeries and, most importantly (c) almost 50 lbs. (and that's AFTER I dropped about 40 since the birth of my 4-year old!) ago!By the way, that's damned impressive. A 3000 in 12:00 is really solid.

There's only 1 way I know to escape age, and it's not very fun either. Thanks! Unfortunately, that was (a) 30+ years (b) two arthroscopic knee surgeries and, most importantly (c) almost 50 lbs. I was a sub 4:40 miler, ran a 5k in 17 flat. That was 20 years ago, now I can barely do a mile in twice that.
