he's a competitor and of course he'd say that. if he can play for 5 more years you're dumb if you don't let him

Sure, when the Steelers have no QB in waiting he's contemplating retirement. When they draft the heir apparent he's going to play for 5 more years. The dude is overcome by his own ego and self-importance.

You pay him until Ben doesn't want to play anymore, OR until he's bad enough the Steelers say enough.

In reality, Mason is a third-round guy and he's getting a lot of hype right now. It's probably real premature to call him any kind of replacement.

that's assuming the things he says in public are exactly what he discusses with management

He's a dodint for sure, but imo the retirement talk was 100% to get rid of Haley.

They could go full Bradshaw on him. Cut him and let him hate the city for the next 30 years.

ben doesn't have to get cut to feel aggrieved and alienated from Pittsburgh after he retires. he will probably just make up some imaginary slight.

At least Terry was able to retreat to his country roots. Ben hates his hometown for some reason as well.

Yeah. A 1st round pick with multiple superb owls getting his jimmies rustled over Landy Jones' replacement is a nothing story. Was pretty annoyed Madden kept droning about it last night; pretty sure it's the reason the Pens lost if we're honest.

I mean I think that's the take you have with keeping/paying Ben. Ben was a diva though that he felt insecure enough to make a 3-5 years comment.

That's what I was thinking about. Good preseason showing + Ben struggling in Game 1 = fodder for talk radio for the rest of the season.

Hmm. I don't really see what what so wrong about what he said. I think he'd like to play another 3-5 years (even if he may be only able to play another 2-3 physically) He doesn't understand using a 3rd round pick on a position of strength when the team had so many positions of weakness. Can't say I disagree with him there. I don't really see it as him being some huge dodint.

Now, when he says in the first post game where he decides to go all regular season Jacksonville that 'its a good thing that the steelers drafted my replacement this year', then we can say he's being a bit douchy.

Position of strength? They are one hit from Landry Jones entering the game. That is not strength.

His suprise retirement talk a couple seasons ago, even if it was to get rid of Haley, contrasted with what was said this week is prime d-bag behaviour.

lol, last year the public wasn't even sure if he would play in 2018. He allegedly wasn't even sure he would continue playing. But the day after we finally draft a potential heir apparent, he is suddenly sure he wants to play 3-5 years? It's clearly Ben being Ben. The reason why we drafted a QB is because he indicated that he could be gone at any moment, and Landry is not the answer.
