One thing that I had not previously considered is that Bell has to sign the tender for the Steelers to trade him, so he can essentially pick where he gets traded to.
No. He can be traded without signing the tender and the team trading for him can pay him more than the franchise tag amount on a one year deal, but a long-term deal cannot officially be signed until after this season.

Bell would need to either sign the franchise tender or sign a 1-year deal from the Steelers, and then he can be traded.

I do think it's time to start adapting to the new way of life that throwing the ball and stopping the throw is everything.
Did you just wake up from a coma from 2002?
Don't ask me, ask the Steelers.

It's more of a Tomlin/Butler thing because LeBeau knew getting pressure on the QB was the key to beating the likes of Manning/Brady.

realistically, what is his value to a team receiving him since they cant negotiate an extension?

The team trading for him would definitely have to agree with the contract extension figures beforehand. I saw this on PFT, and they didn't mention whether or not this has ever happened in the past, just that this is the only scenario in which he can be traded.

Yes. And he’s old, so McDonald likely stiff armed him out of the league.

At this point, I'd rather Bell sign his tender, and we bench his ass for the rest of the season.

If I’m Le’Veon, I’m coming back Nov. 13, and going to go in there, I’m going to get my credit, the season that I need to get, and I’m going to do the best I can to get out of that season healthy. For me, I’d give you everything in practice. You would see, the cameras would see, that I am fine. I am healthy. But come Saturday? Something ain’t right. I can’t play on Sunday. Because if I go out here and I mess something up. I’m losing a lot of money. -James Harrison
Get ****, Harrison. I used to love you.

I guess now he's okay with participation trophies.

I've never heard him say anything like that before, and he always seemed to play through anything and everything. Plus, he has quite the harsh stance on participation trophies, so this is new territory.

Harrison was a very good football player and helped the Steelers win a super bowl. The moment we pretend what kind of humans these guys are is the moment you should just quit watching the NFL

I like to live in a little bubble where professional athletes care more about winning than they do about making money. In reality, it's probably more like 60/40 money to winning. In some cases that becomes more like 80/20 or 90/10. Or 100/0 in Bell's case. And now I feel like I've become a Scott Steiner promo.

Harrison has been pro-Bell throughout this whole thing. He's been pretty vocal on various Fox Sports shows since training camp.

Regarding the 'winning v money' thing: Pro football players have an average career expectancy of 3.3 years. Running backs average less than that (they actually have the shortest careers in football). Once you get into rookies that make their opening day roster, and players with at least one Pro Bowl, then you get into average career lengths of 6-10 years. Point being: It's always going to be 80/20 money/'winning' for an NFL player. The difference is the very good players - like Bell - don't really have to make the decision between the two, because good teams will come calling.

so you're saying that Bell has a 141 2/3 chance of not coming back until later in the season?

The numbers don't lie.

I've seen this number thrown around a lot and was wondering if it's diluted by players who play a handful of games, get cut and never make it past another team's practice squad.

Not disputing the wear, tear, and abuse that these guys can take. Even if I had NFL size, I know I couldn't do it.
