See, I don’t even know if it’s about scouting though. We knew guys like Dupree, Burns, Hargreaves were extremely raw. These guys to me just haven’t seemed to improve from being raw athletes. The sad thing about Dupree is that he's still been an upgrade over Jarvis.
Colbert has been here a long time with a pretty solid track record and the drafting on offense is still pretty solid. Maybe defensive genius Mike Tomlin gets more say on defensive picks and really sucks at it.
Dupree legitimately does not have a single move he uses. Zero bull rush, no swim, no cutting inside, no spins. He’s exactly what he was out of college, a raw athlete who needed coaching up.
Same with Burns. He has all the traits to be a good corner, but he still struggles is zone defense and only uses his athleticism to make any plays. Zero cerebral play
And to me this comes down to the LB coach (in regards to Dupree) and Lake (for Burns) and then the DC. Tomlin gets a bit of a pass here because it’s hard for head coaches to get one on one time with these guys.
But Tomlin is 100 percent plus more responsible for the no holds barred, sloppy ass play of the entire team. It’s about accountability and he has none now
