lets pump the brakes here, brown. I never said downfield blocking was irrelevant. It just isn't a reason to put a WR with a lot of longevity but was never a game breaker or a big play receiver into the hall of fame here. downfield blocking is a skill but not the type of skill that puts guys into the hall of fame.
They used HW almost as a tight end in blocking situations. He didn’t just block downfield. The defenses would surely gameplan for him in those types of formations. It’s ludicrous to think otherwise.

KTK is right. I appreciate Hines's blocking ability but it counts for practically nothing on a HoF ballot, like it or not.
Who votes for the Hof? I can see dinosaurs getting their jimmies in a rustle over Ward and him get in no problem.
The same people that didn't vote him in last year

JuJu is just as good, if not better at blocking than HW was.

Rosie nix lines up in different places in different situations. Does that mean teams gameplan for him?

Was Rosie Nix used to routinely seal the edge for the runningback?

I thought it was just a typo. Is there really more to that?

After watching the Saints last night, they're going to kill the Steelers.

I think on a good day the Steelers can beat anyone. Problem is they don’t always bring the a game.

Hines Ward should not be in the HOF. That being said the HOF has let alot of very questionable people in, so he will get in eventually. He was never the best receiver in football in any year he played. That right there disqualifies him from consideration for the HOF. He was never ever the best at his position at any given time.. so no HOF IMO.

You have to be THE best to get in? Sheesh. Sucks for any QB that played from 2001-2018 beside Manning and Brady

I think at some point you have to be considered the best, or at least close to it. I don't think he was ever even a top 3 WR at any point in his career. Like I said the HOF takes in questionable people every year.. it's basically the Hall of Very good at this point.. so with that being the case Ward will get in.

Which is why no one ever gameplaned to specifically stop ward.

But Grunty will come in here an argue that by lining up a defender on ward, it consistitues “game planning against Hines ward”

Franchise leader in receptions, yardage, and receiving TDs
88 postseason receptions for over 1,100 yds and 10 TDs
4-time Pro Bowler, 2-time Second Team All Pro (which indicates he was regarded as one of the best at his position)
2-time Superb Owl champ, Superb Owl XL MVP

On a massively lopsided run-first team.

I don't think dismissing him outright is a good take imo.

The postseason stats are 4th, 6th, and 4th all-time. And I believe all his regular season numbers are top 15-20 as well.
