To clarify - in the alternate (and terrifying) world of Slappy being GM, he would not only accept this deal if presented, he would immediately cut Ben Roethlisberger?
On top of that, you assume Ben won't re-sign or sign an extension and Wentz 100% would be here long term.
Beside the above.. I would trade AB for a position in need of more immediate help. Getting a QB for 3-4 years from now is further down the list and a deal I would consider if no other options were present.
Ben is apparently restructuring and extending his current deal right now. This was reported last week.
Ulf, I am disappoint. This is EPP level misrepresentation.
First, I saw the report that NTP posted about them working on a Ben extension. That is, of course, occurring in a world in which Carson Wentz will not be traded for AB, because the Eagles would never do it. In the theoretical world we are discussing, you don't extend Ben if this trade is available. Its not up to "Ben to re-sign" because if you trade for Wentz you don't extend Ben.
My point about Ben can get cut is that he's got one year left on his deal, and trading for Wentz will send him into drama-Ben mode the likes of which we have never seen before. His boo-boo face would likely necessitate everyone moving on, because AB's blow-up will look like peanuts in comparison. There is no decision between 37-year old Ben for one to three more years or Carson Wentz for the next decade (this whole "BuT HoW Do YoU KnOw WeNtZ wOuLd Be HeRe LoNg-TeRm" is dumb as hell and you know damn well he's signing a max deal upon arriving here). You are not getting a QB for "3-4 years down the road"; you are getting one for 2020-2030 or 2019-2030. Maybe they can co-exist for 2019, maybe they can't. But 2020 Ben is gone for certain and Wentz is your franchise.
The idea that you pass on trading a 31-year old receiver who has very likely crested and is, even slowly, going to go downhill for a 26-year old franchise QB is hilarious insanity.
